A couple of months ago, I went to a concert up in Denver. The band that played was called dada. They are a three-man pop rock band that have been playing since their first album was released in 1992. The band has a small following, but the amphitheater still was still quite full by the time the band started playing. Before this concert, I had been to a couple others in the past with bands of a similar type playing in a similar setting to that of the amphitheater I found myself in a couple of months ago. After going to the dada concert, I noticed there was an interesting pattern of where different people sat or stood at these concerts. This pattern divided people up by their social rank, age, and class. There were three different areas to this pattern: the people standing in the front at the stage, the people standing in the middle of the theater, and the people sitting in the back. Because of the fact that I was in the front of the amphitheater, I began to observe the majority of people standing alongside of me. My hypothesis of this place was partially correct, but also was not correct at the same time. The reason it matched was that they were using it for the students to use for their performance, and the audience was able to have enough space to sit, however I was wrong because I did not anticipate the people who were going to misuse it. According to my observations, high school students who have that facility at their disposal are more likely to take it for granted and misuse the auditorium. However, there are also people that use it for what it was meant to be used for, so it continues to be used for public performances, making it a public place.
Before the invention of written language that enabled the creation of book technology, the spoken word was the leading edge of communication. Spoken epic poetry such as the Iliad and Odyssey, the Anglo-Saxon Beowulf, and the Sumerian Epic of Gilgamesh was the content of the speech medium. These epics were created as spoken pieces, and because listeners lacked an alphabet to commodify them (separate them from their performance), the tales had to be heard and experienced first-hand.
I’m in love with music because it always seems to make my day go by better. Rap, recitals, jazz and classical concerts top in my music preferred list. My passion for music made me very excited about going the Columbus state musical concert held in the River Center of Performing Arts In the Legacy Room. The theatre is located in a nice location giving the audience a full range of sound and sight. The sounds are incredible and I really loved how I could hear everything. The stage can be seen from any place that one decides to stand on. For this particular concert, the venue was dimly lit. The concert staged was adorned by different musicians, with their amazing performances.. The audience could not help, but dance and sing along with the musicians. During this concert report I will tell you about the three recitals I attended and how they struck me as being some of the best music I’ve ever heard.
There is no better experience for a musician’s disciples than a live concert. For decades fans have followed bands and singers, to numerous shows and tours and around the world. In few instances this following gets out of hand, and the mere appearance of the star causes chaos, mobs and physical illness among fans. This special hysteria is brought about by none other than a boy band.
On Tuesday, October 17, 2017, I attended a musical concert. This was the first time I had ever been to a concert and did not play. The concert was not what I expected. I assumed I was going to a symphony that featured a soloist clarinet; however, upon arrival I quickly realized that my previous assumptions were false. My experience was sort of a rollercoaster. One minute I was down and almost asleep; next I was laughing; then I was up and intrigued.
The Laidlaw Preforming Arts Center held a Wind Ensemble for the students of South Alabama. In this program there were a various Romantic style pieces which are listed on the program stapled to the back of this paper. Each piece of music shows a series of different styles, and the student band does so well with each. As the concert is coming to the end student conductors begin to conduct the pieces, and they all do a wonderful job.
Concerts nowadays are too brutal. This violence needs to end. Even the artists that play at these shows are outraged by this aggression. Even they want to make this end. “Concerts get such a band name, because of all the [violence] and everything like that,” said Limp Bizkit (a ‘flavor-of-the-month’ band) guitarist Wes Borland. Sprains and broken bones resulting from moshing (a violent form of “dance” in which fans careen off one another) and crowd surfing (a practice in which fans are passed over head by the members of the crowd) have been common at concerts for many years. As many people remember at Woodstock ’99 the destruction at the festival was at its peak. This shows how degraded popular culture has become. “The thing that I felt was unfair, in the follow-up in the press, was the demonization of a generation,” said guitarist Tom Morello of, a popular band, Rage Against the Machine, “There was just this vilification of a whole generation and the bands that they like, based on this concert. I think it’s ridiculous.” (Arizona Republic, 10-3-99) But who’s to say that this violent behavior doesn’t go on at other concerts? Well, in fact it does.
I was one of the first to arrive in the lobby for the performance, but it didn’t take long before the area was full and the chatter amongst everyone was rather loud. Most of the older crowd greeted each another as if they
Team sports which is where I categorize concert band is a bit contradictory in the way that it needs to promote the dual values of cooperation and competition to be successful. Cooperation because concert band cannot be played with only one instrument. Competition to avoid breeding complacency (which we saw settling in the early episodes) and for higher performance.
I believe that there are reasons for the decisions made in the case of “Controversy over a concert”. To get to point, it is not fair to restrict reporters or any other employees in the media from attending events that may have a political purpose. Employees in the media may be fans of bands and others forms of entertainment, but are unable to be a part of the event due to being part of the media. A reason for this restriction may be to avoid bias and other publicity scandals, but it does not make it right for the employees. In some cases, certain employees may be allowed to attend these event, but with alternative motives. Some media outlets may use these events to “expose” certain people, or bring hidden facts to the light. A single question
Summer is a film score composed by Joe Hisaishi for Kikujiro. The recording that I select, however, is from Hisaishi’s concert in 2003. When I play it on piano, I identify with the sense of liveliness and innocence it conveys, and I feel proud for making it contagious when others are around.
The concert I chose to attend was a jazz concert. I felt like jazz might be the best beginning choice for me because it’s relatively easier to understand than some of the other music types. Emotions seem to be more easily communicated in jazz and the message conveyed is often easier to recognize. Also, the exciting and lively mood jazz music gives off instantly attracted me to choosing this genre to attend a concert for.
For this concert report I chose to go to a performance of student composers held at the Kimball Recital Hall. I chose this one because I wanted to see some of the talent that my peers have in the music realm, and also it was one of the only concerts I have been able to attend because I usually work at night. It was impressive to hear pieces composed by students. I cannot imagine creating something as complex as a musical composition, much less actually performing it, so this aspect of the concert was particularly awe-inspiring. There was a large attendance, and I think that much of the audience consisted of friends of the composers and/or performers. I went with three friends, who I convinced by telling it would be interesting to see student composers.
The space in which the audience occupies may feel cluttered, or may even be flooded at the superfluous amount of people attending. The shared experience won't feel genuine as there are so many people responding. Ironically, it may feel as though one is alone, even if there are plenty of people nearby. Finally, a large number of people may make the performance literally unwatchable. This can occur from an assortment of reasons, but it will most likely vary from audience to audience. One example of this may be from an extremely large audience that takes up so much space that one can no longer correctly experience the performance.
Then audience members who were perfect strangers who were screaming loudest would turn to each other with knowing glances and smile because they were sharing the same excitement and connecting with one another over their love of this man’s music. There was no pushing or shoving to get closer to the stage – it wasn’t that kind of crowd. Instead, there was mutual respect for one another’s space within the confines of the too-small venue. Nobody wanted to be the person who ruined it for someone else. It was this respect that made the audience members’ connections with one another that much stronger – we were all here to listen to this wonderful man’s music and see his performance – and, of course, we were here to enjoy it.
