I chose to make a web diagram to show the differences between the good and evil characters in “The wizard of Oz”. I explained who was good and evil and showed examples from the movie. Also what they did that was good or bad. I used dark colors for evil like the evil witch who wore a black dress and lighter colors such as a light blue for good like the color of Dorothy’s dress. My map showed good vs evil in the film “The Wizard of Oz”. The witches of the West and East were evil. The witches of the North and South are good. Then there are the 3 uncles of Dorothy, who are also good also known as the tin man, scarecrow, and the lion. Dorothy is good she brings the 3 people she meets on the yellow brick road with her to Oz and helps them get what they need a brain, heart, and courage. He lead everyone to Oz and revealed that the wizard of Oz was a fake behind a screen. He was smart enough to escape from the witch in the beginning when she took him away and he was smart enough to know what was going on. I also learned from the textbook and the readings was that children have a big imagination. However, I did not pick up on most of the symbols and themes when I first saw the movie when I was younger. As I got older I picked up on the colors and how they represented good and evil. Also that the three uncles were the lion, tin man, and the scarecrow, and the Wizard of Oz was the mayor of Dorothy’s town and the evil witch is Dorothy’s neighbor. There is two different views from the movie in color and black white. It must have been harder to pick up on good and evil without colors. You would have to rely on how the characters acted and what they did throughout the movie to pick up on who they were either good or

I think the wicked witch of the west is a better villain because I like the dramatic ending of how she melts away. I don’t like how the man with the red eyes is mean to the whole family. The man with the red eyes and the wicked witch of the west are the same because they are both the antagonist, mean, and want everything their way. They are different because in the Wizard of Oz they have a happy ending ny defeating the witch but, the man with red eyes is mean and they don’t get past
In the story "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" by L. Frank Baum color plays a major part. It seperates each journey. The colors symbolize the different types of people and every cardinal point had a different color.
The Wizard of Oz was thought to be the "First Color film" ever. Although that is actually not true. I interviewed a person who was just a kid when the movie came out and he told me that the experiance in the theater was as he described it "Shocking".. So what role did color play in the novel... Well Color played a role in every aspect of this Story. For example my favorite character was the "Good Witch" which had colors of Red,white and blue. The good witch was symbolic for the United States.
Colors play an important role in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. What colors represents are the areas of Oz’s land. Green symbolizes Emerald city, which was where the Wizard of Oz lived. White meant that you was in the middle of all the land, basically white undetermined. Yellow was the land of the Winkies, which was on the west side of the land.
Characters in books generally have only one stable and unchanging personality, but the way Jack is depicted in Lord of the Flies, by William Golding shows that both good and evil exists in everyone. Dorothy lives on a farm in Kansas and the black and white technique is used to show how boring and bland Dorothy views Kansas to be. It also depicts her inability to look past lies. Dorothy lies to herself and believes that she doesn’t belong in her home and that she isn’t loved. Dorothy only seeing things as black and white rather than looking past color to see that she really does have a family who loves her. Another use of color in the Wizard of Oz is when Dorothy awakens in the land of Oz and can see color. This symbolizes her ability to see through the lies in the world of Oz. Throughout her adventure, Dorothy learns that not everything is what is seems. When Dorothy is picking apples, she learns that the trees are cruel. While at the witch’s castle, Dorothy learns that the big evil witch can be stopped with a bucket of water. Most importantly, Dorothy discovers that the great Wizard of Oz is nothing but a man behind a curtain who can’t grant wishes. As soon as color is brought into the film, Dorothy begins to pick up on lies that are being told to her. Dorothy eventually is able to sort out lies from reality and returns to Kansas where she now has the ability to realize that she has been lying to herself; her family actually does love her and Kansas is her home. Good vs. Evil in Macbeth The good characters in Macbeth are less interesting than the evil ones. Everybody has an evil seed planted in them. Only the really evil person acts on them and commits something morally wrong. Like a Macbeth. When Macbeth first received the prophecies, he actually considered them.
“The power of choosing good and evil is within the reach of all” (Origen). The quote is a reminder that everyone has the choice of choosing between being good or evil. In The Lord of the Flies, William Golding writes about a plane of British boys crash landing on a deserted island without adults to tell them the difference between right and wrong. In the beginning of the novel, the boys are civilized and orderly. Later in the novel conflict arises and a few boys become complete savages. At the end, the boys are rescued by a naval officer when the island has suffered maximum destruction. Ralph is written to be a good character, but as you read the novel his character progresses and participates in unacceptable activities. The signal fire is built for a good reason, to get the boys off the island, but the fire transforms very dangerously. In the novel, Golding uses the characterization of Ralph and the symbolism of the signal fire to reveal that every man- even he who is considered “good” is capable of evil actions.
The Lord of the Flies by William Golding is tale of a group of young boys who become stranded on a deserted island after their plane crashes. Intertwined in this classic novel are many themes, most that relate to the inherent evil that exists in all human beings and the malicious nature of mankind. Are humans good or evil? Society has been asking themselves this question for decades. Humans tend to only do what they think is best for themselves. We make quick decisions based off of resolutions that we make within seconds usually these decisions are bad and the average human only acts for themselves and we are evil because of it. Our beastly qualities and savage mindsets are shown through numerous novels written throughout history leading us to the conclusion that men are in fact, evil.
In the world of Oz things are viewed in color almost to reflect a happier place, although even in the most appealing places there are flaws Dorothy must face within this marvelous world of Oz as she finds her self-identity within individual characters that represent a part of Dorothy’s feelings in regards to her identity. These experiences in Kansas were stored in her memory and now in the emerald city she must face similar experiences through her journey to see the Great Wizard of Oz. Dorothy by defeating the wicked witch of the west manages to make it home while also teaching her friends the scarecrow, tin man and lion that they never lacked the ability to love, be intelligent or have courage they had those traits all along inside of themselves. Once Dorothy returns to Kansas the film continues its ending scenes in black and white to show Dorothy’s reality. Now having gone through some learning experiences she doesn’t view her home life as bad as she use to do to the self-reflective journey she had on her way to emerald city to learn about herself. Both Dorothy and Alice face different types of antagonists throughout their journeys, were as they were seen as the driving forces of good. For example, upon Dorothy’s arrival to the land of Oz her house lands and kills the Wicked Witch of the East, her death results in freeing of all the enslaved Munchkins. Dorothy was sad and shocked that her house killed the evil Witch of the East, she cries out, ‘“Oh dear! Oh dear! ...“clasping her hands together in dismay. “The house must have fallen on her. Whatever shall we do?”… “There is nothing to be done,” said the little woman calmly… “She has held all the Munchkins in bondage for many years, making them slave for her night and day. Now they are all set free”’ (Baum 9). Dorothy is a symbol of good for all that live in Oz and everyone is grateful for her defeating the evil Witch. Another evil character that was defeated by the innocent Dorothy was the Wicked Witch of the West who had enslaved her. However, at first she was afraid when “She looked down at Dorothy’s feet, and seeing the Silver Shoes, began to tremble with fear, for she knew what a powerful charm belonged to them.
