ANDAMAN AND NICOBAR ISLANDS Introduction 12. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands, consists of two groups of islands at the southeastern edge of the Bay of Bengal. The peaks of a submerged mountain range, the Andaman Islands, and the Nicobar Islands, form an arc stretching southward around 950 km between Myanmar and the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. The arc constitutes the boundary between the Bay of Bengal to the west and the Andaman Sea to the east. Port Blair (on South Andaman Island) is the capital of the Union Territory. These picturesque undulating islands are covered with dense evergreen forests and varieties of exotic flora and fauna. Most of these islands are in the Andaman Group, 24 of which are inhabited. In the Nicobar group 13 islands are inhabited. 13. Geographical Disposition. The Andaman group comprises about 572 islands, sub-divided into North, Middle, and South Andaman, known collectively as Great Andaman. Little Andaman in the south is separated from the Nicobar Islands by the Ten Degree Channel, which is about 145 km wide. Topography. The terrain of the Andaman group of islands is undulated, with hills enclosing narrow longitudinal valleys. The coral-fringed coasts of the islands are deeply indented, forming safe harbours and tidal creeks. The terrain of the Nicobar group of islands is more diverse than that of the Andaman. Some of the Nicobar Group of Islands, such as Car Nicobar, have flat coral-covered surfaces with offshore coral formations. Other islands, such as Great Nicobar are hilly and contain numerous fast-flowing streams. Therefore, these islands provide numerous options for creation of mega harbours/ trans-shipment terminals, Special Economic Zones/ Economic centres and fisheries processing
Barrier Beaches stretch along the entire east coast of the United States. The barrier beaches from Long Island to Maine are known as Glaciated Coasts because their formation was assisted by glaciers. Eighteen thousands years ago a glacier covered most of the eastern US. This glacier terminated at present day Long Island. About fifteen thousands years ago the glacier began to retreat. As it melted it left behind mounds of rubble, called moraines. This particular glacier left behind two moraines because its final recession was a two part process. These two moraines are the Ronkonkoma Moraine and the Harbor Hill Moraine. The Ronkonkoma Moraine is located in central Long Island and the Harbor Hill Moraine is located on the northern part of Long Island. Besides the two moraines the glaciers deposited great amounts of debris offshore. This debris supplies the sand needed to create and maintain a barrier beach system (Hoel 16-18).
Neoland is a large island consisting of five providences with a population of 62, 000. Neoland Island is located in the far north of the equator; it is surrounded by the Arctic Ocean.. The climate is dry with an average of minus fifty degrees Fahrenheit. Neoland is ruled by an independent government. The island is well known for its rugged coast lines rich in plankton, exotic fish and mammals. It has diverse mountain vegetation and many types of whales such as the white whale, pilot whale and sperm whale; the citizens’ favorite hobby is whale watching. Neoland Island is made of many small communities or villages, major occupation is fishing. For entertainment, the island offers rock, pop, jazz and traditional church concerts and golfing.
Island arcs form as oceanic plate subducts under oceanic plate. Volcanism is concentrated in an arc of volcanoes, generally approximately located above the leading edge of the subducting plate. A trench often forms where the slabs meet and subduction begins. On the non subducting slab a series of basins form, with a fore-arc basin nearest the subduction/trench, then the main arc, and a back-arc basin on the far side (Mitchell and Reading, 1971; Frisch, Meschede and Blakey, 2010).

The Galapagos Islands, located about 600 miles west of continental Ecuador, contain a rich history of settlement and exploration and represent a living example of evolution that is still relevant today. For centuries, this chain of volcanic islands has been used uniquely by various cultures based off distinct needs. What has remained the same however is the fact that island isolation has forced many animal and plant species to adapt differently from one another based off their island’s environmental conditions, creating a living model of microevolution over time. Today, these models tend to be the primary resources used by biology professors when teaching their students evolutionary topics.

Haida Gwaii is composed of many small islands consisting of a multitude of inlets, rivers, and beaches (Dalzell 13, and Horwood and Parkin 13). These, more than 150, islands create an isolated archipelago totalling in approximately 9940 km2. Freshwater systems, inlets, waterways, rivers, and lakes are scattered throughout the islands (www.gohaidagwaii.ca). Areas, such as the Skidegate Inlet, between the lowland Graham Island and the narrow, steep-sloped Moresby Island, provide broad view of the landscape (Horwood and Parkin 52). The 100 km wide (www.gohaidagwaii.ca), Hecate Strait, dividing Haida Gwaii with the mainland, is shallow and temper-mental with shallow areas, huge waves, rock overfalls, and tide rips (Dalzell 14).
In the story of The Island of “Kora”, the island had been devastated by a violent earthquake that had been triggered by a volcano eruption four years earlier. The island which had prior to the disaster been about twenty square miles in size and been reduced to less than a fourth that size to about four square miles. The island prior to the earthquakes had previously been able to support comfortably 850 to 900 people. It was a peaceful island where the inhabitants got along well. Because of the disasters the lives of the inhabitants had been changed forever.

The Bay of islands is one of the most beautiful parts of New Zealand and has 144 islands. It can also claim to be the birth place of New Zealand. The Bay Island with its warm climate and water based activities is a popular destination for New Zealand holiday makers and international tourist. The bay has many interesting historic towns including Pahia, Russell, Waitangi and Kari Keri. There is a broad range of accommodation in the bay of island, as well as attractions and activities, place to eat, and entrainment of all age.
Let’s begin with the location of Barbados. Barbados is an Island of a cluster of Caribbean Islands. Its location is on the boundary of the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, in a somewhat strange location, if you may. The Island is 166 square miles and is located 13 degrees North, 59 degrees West, leaving it at around 270 miles north-east of Venezuela. Closest to the Island are the nations Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Barbados is generally a flat island, with a central highland; the highest point being Mount Hillaby which stands at 336 meters tall. Barbados is also known as “Little England” by the British. Barbados was named by Pedro A. Campos, a Portuguese explorer, who originally named the Island “Os Barbados’ (The Bearded Ones) because he believed that the islands fig trees looked like beards due to their drooping aerial roots. The capital of Barbados is Bridgetown.
Corals the rainforests of the sea. Corals’ and rainforests are very important to the world because they have a very important function. Carbon dioxide dissolves in seawater, the carbon dioxide then forms a week acid called carbonic acid this acid in it called carbonic iron, which stays in the carbon carbonate. This acid cannot make limestone but dose dissolve in ready-formed limestone and the reefs need it to produce limestone. Rainforests give out oxygen. Corals are like rainforest in the sea with al the reefs and animals. Corals are also compared with cities because they are like cities the fish are like people and the corals are homes to the fish.
The novel Reef by Romesh Gunesekera is about a lad named Triton. The novel marks his coming of age. As the novel progress young Triton grows from a boy to a man.” Triton at the age of eleven” and “I told him I had a business nearby a restaurant”(Gunesekera1) ,this show that he had grown up from a lad to man. Triton experiences a number of events that his coming of age. In my essay I will explore these events of an insider and outsider.
