Dental implants offer many benefits: no slipping, no food restrictions, and no special cleaning. Unlike dentures or other options, dental implants are attached to the jawbone like your regular teeth—therefore they function and look like natural teeth. But what if you suffer from osteoporosis? Since dental implants require a long healing period, taking these medications may cause issues. If you wish to have dental implants, talk to your doctor and dentist about what options are available.
3. You Smoke
It is well-known that smoking is bad for your health—it is also bad for your oral health. Smoking tobacco products can significantly reduce your oral health and your body's ability to heal. Nicotine can also pose problems, as it may reduce the blood flow to the jawbone. If you are smoker, consider quitting for at least 3-months before undergoing dental implant surgery.
4. You Clench Your Jaw or Grind Your Teeth
The habit of clenching the jaw or grinding teeth may not sound damaging, but it is. This act can cause the jawbone to deteriorate over time, especially if left untreated.
