Emily Li Jeremy Lakoff ENG 201 4/16/14 Dehumanization of Students Technology has become such a significant part of every aspect of most student’s daily lives. Regardless of generations, people are constantly losing touch with what it means to be human. This is happening because we are in possession of tools that does not let ourselves think on our own. Instead, these tools think for us and this is because technology is changing the way we think. These effects are affecting not only adults, but especially students and teachers. The role of technology plays a big part when it comes to dehumanization for students. The part technology plays is to dehumanize students which makes them less social, inefficient. What role does technology play in a school environment? There are many ways to answer this question, especially through studies that were conducted by these scholarly sources. These studies are going to be closely examined through the use of technology in a school environment. There are many tools that have numb the human into believing that advancing technology is all we have. What is the meaning of "dehumanization”,? in this case it means an individual is imprison of their human features and this causes them to become mechanical. There are many factors that we have not noticed yet, because technology has already begun to dehumanized us. In this case, we are more prone to becoming one with technology because emails, tablets, iPhones, and laptops has dominated our modern world, thus making us virtually available. Certainly there is more to technology but the main focus will be directed to how technology dehumanizes students in an educational environment. Yet, our concerns are directed as to how technology affects students? “One effect of technology is that Millennials will exhaust themselves looking for information electronically before they will seek out and ask an authority figure. (Espinoza 31) Technology makes students less self-sufficient. Students are working less harder because they are becoming immobilized by the computer. Computers are becoming smarter than students and today student’s can’t do simple research without having to use google as a resource. Students are wired to technology which creates an inefficient learning because information isn’t absorbed but rather temporarily stays in the mind.
