The starting point of the vietnam war was not as most wars, where there is an obvious starting point. The vietnam war began through a series of events and decisions made between 1950 and 1965. Contributing events were the communist aggression throughout indochina, Gulf of Tonkin resolution, Public opposition to the war in vietnam, and War Powers Act of 1973. An event that held a lot of the weight as the cause of the war was the communist aggression throughout indochina that the united states was working vigorously to stop, while peace efforts were in korea. Its represented in, “Another hole in the Dike” as a man (America) hammering a nail (peace efforts) into a hole(Korea), and all of the water (communist abortion) is spewing from another hole (Indochina) bc it can’t be contained in one place. Many Americans supported the war and were being told through the media that they should. The media completely misinformed Americans and deceived them of what was actually happening in Vietnam. When people started to realize what was actually going on, that the military was targeting the poor, uneducated, and minorities that were helpless, they felt betrayed. At that point is when the support began to decline and protests started to break out (SDS protests, Doc.3). To cut back on such inhumane things, The war Powers Act was put into place. This Act influenced the war by providing the president the ability to send us military forces into war. This was only allowed if congress agreed or if there was a direct attack on the U.S.(doc4), then Armed forces couldn't remain more than 10 days. This helped because it limited the U.S. involvement in the conflict. If congress didn’t think forces should be sent, then they weren’t. This helped to eliminate military forces being sent and killed and gave the angry American citizens the relief they
