I have a combination of academic background and professional experience gained for more than 15 years in management positions, including more than four years in DHS as PEM-B. I have a bachelor degree in Business Administration, Master Degree in Public Administration, and recently I have earned my second Masters Degree in Business Administration, major in Management. I took the Metro Leadership Class (D16, D2, and D15), last year I graduated from the Leadership Academy. My education and experience in training adults started when I obtained my Master Degree in Public Administration in 1985. As part of the graduation requirements, I took many credits of education courses such as Physiology, Teaching and Learning Techniques. Right after I graduated,
I want to be a Bank of America Student Leader because I wish to be able to experience new opportunities for volunteering and interact with others who shares the same interests. This opportunity would also allow me to learn more about leadership skills so that I will be a better leader in the future to make improvements for the community. Even though I lack many traits, I am willing to learn from criticisms and I am open minded to others’ opinions. Born talented or not, I believe that the desire to learn is the most important characteristic that a person can possess and I am willing to learn from this opportunity if I am lucky enough to receive it. Being a Vietnamese immigrant who is living in a large Vietnamese community in Garden Grove, I
Leadership training programs allow for teachers to use their professional experience as an educator and combine it with the academic and hands on experience of being a leader by providing a comprehensive program. Leadership “…is learnable by providing real world leadership training” (Ramsey, 2006, p.xx). The training program prepares educators to be leaders and equips them with the tools necessary to be an effective leader. There is a need for an “,,,infusion ...
My first goal after passing the Board of Certification exam for Athletic Training in April is to earn my Master’s degree while working as a Graduate Assistant in the Athletic Training department. In order to make sure that I am successful with my first goal, I am applying to over 25 schools across the nation. I have reached out to various athletic trainers in all different settings in order to make the connections needed to earn a Graduate Assistant position. I have attended Seahawk leadership conferences held on campus to build my leadership skills and I have held, and am currently holding, leadership positions in the other organizations that I am involved in on campus. I have earned supplemental experience in athletic training by working with the Wilmington Sharks, working as a camp counselor and lab assistant at the North Carolina Student Sports Medicine Symposium, and working with the UNCW Soccer youth camps over the summer. I also work to attend
The way a leader is defined and remembered is not only through his actions and accolades, his followers and the leaders he developed also go into a leader’s legacy. Much like a legendary football coach, whose coaching tree goes on to do great things, I desire to join an organization that not only assist in my development as a leader, but also facilitate in the development of others as well. How could I contribute to the development of leaders? My largest contribution will come from my experience of being the United States military, where I was not only trained how to become an efficient leader, I was also taught on how to facilitate the growth and development of others leaders as well. I am able to accurately assess and evaluate strengths and weaknesses of an individual and assist in the development of a plan of action to address these areas. One of my personal beliefs is that vast knowledge is useless unless it is passed down to someone. With that being said I take every opportunity possible to share any knowledge that has helped me along the way.
Through hard work and commitment I have become a well-rounded leader beyond my age. I set goals and take pride in achieving them. This is evident in my involvement in the lives of my friends, community, school, and church. I serve through volunteer service, community outreach, and school involvement. I have been an audio and light technician for 9 years mixing audio for various school concerts, musicals, dramas, and other performances. I have donated more than 1,000 hours of community service into local organizations in the treasure valley since I was in middle school. I am currently a part of the National Honor Society chapter at my high school. I want to inspire others to serve without wanting to be recognized. I put into my classes what
The Department of Health and Human Services (HSS) is a federal government agency tasked with protecting health and providing basic human services. This department separated from the Department of Education in 1979. Below introduces this important department and explains how their services help Americans every day.
I was born in 1985 in what I recalled as a third world country. Born in a hut made out of mud and who knows what. A village where people gather to watch one box tv no bigger than 20 inches. Indoor plumbing was nonexistent. I learned the English language watching TV programs and continued with English as my second language (ESL) until the third grade.
While at New Tech High at Coppell I believe I have learned how to effectively communicate, accept criticism without being defensive, be flexible and cooperative, and exemplify what it takes be a recognized as a leader. I have keen listening skills, choose my words carefully before responding and always work cooperatively with my peers. At the end of my freshman year I applied and interviewed for Learner Leadership Council and served as an active
As one gets older, leadership becomes a huge part of who they are and how they carry themselves. Are they able to take on responsibilities, express their opinions and make decisions among their peers? Are they respectable and reliable and therefore able to inspire and support others? Are they outgoing, and positive? All essential for a leader. Throughout the past 4 years, I have taken on several leadership roles. I have become more involved in my church. I have taken on more responsibilities in 4-H and Kane County Ambassadors. I have participated in high school cheerleading, and competitive All-Star cheerleading. Participation in these organizations has allowed me to develop outstanding leadership skills.
As someone who has many aspirations in life, I understand having both long and short-term goals is important. One of my long-term professional objectives includes being a community service manager at a health center. With this I am hoping to work with many other healthcare professionals to coordinate health programs and initiatives to improve the health of communities. Having a background in health promotion alongside the leadership and management skills and the real world experience that I intended to gain from this program will give me all I need to make this
Are small beginnings desirable or worthwhile? Am I beneath a person just because I do not currently have a college degree? Am I capable of leading others? How do I lead and succeed? If placed in a leadership position, will I succeed? These are some of the questions that I asked myself prior to starting at Palm Beach Atlantic University Organizational Management and Leadership program. However, the Leadership for Academic Success course has answered my questions. I am a leader. However, I need to equip myself with the knowledge and skills necessary for the leadership responsibilities. Therefore, in this course, I have learned many lifelong skills that will assist me in the betterment of my education such as: setting short and long term goals, what type of learner I am, my learning style, how to management my time wisely, how to study smart, how to improve my testing and reading comprehension skills and most importantly, my critical thinking skills. Also, the Discovery Wheel assignment which was broken into ten categories: time, money, diversity, communicating, test, thinking, motivation, reading, note taking, and purpose revealed things that I did not know about
My mom always used to say,” Look at the person as a whole to understand the condition.” Even though it made little sense to me as a child, I learned the concept when I was doing my Internal medicine rotation. The passion of knowing that I could improve a person’s quality of life drew me into pursuing medicine. The multitude of different organ systems that one covers while practicing medicine fascinated me to delve into a field that encompasses them all - Internal Medicine. In addition, I enjoyed the challenges that Internal Medicine would provide me with its diversity. Altogether, Internal Medicine was the amalgam of everything I learned in my medical practice and decided to pursue my residency.
I intend to give back to the community by combining knowledge obtained from the study of Psychology with the leadership skills I have gained by working in a tutorial program into a wide scale program for underprivileged school children of my community.
When I graduated with my Bachelor’s of Psychology degree in 2004, I remember feeling unsure of what it was I wanted to do. Nine years later I entered my Master’s program in Educational Leadership and I remember feeling that same apprehension. I had been a Guidance Counselor providing college advising to inner city high school students for 8 years. I knew I wanted to focus on Higher Education Administration but was unsure of how I could transition into the field. In the summer of 2015, I was preparing to graduate with my Master’s degree but, before I could, I had one final course: Leadership in Higher Education.
