“Cyberbullying, Race/Ethnicity and Mental Health Outcomes: A Review of the Literature” was published in Media and Communications on June 16th, 2016. The author, Lynne Edwards, has her Bachelor’s degree from Ursinus College and her Master’s and Doctorate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. She is now a Professor of Media and Communication Studies at Ursinus College. Along with that she is a Distinguished Research Fellow with the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania. She does have other work on similar topics and uses her research and knowledge in the classes she teaches. The article addresses cyberbullying and direct bullying as a whole and goes deeper into different races and cultures. It explains how they are affected along with who is most likely to be the bully or the victim and how both are affected by mental health and can affect one’s mental health. Edwards’ main idea is the mental health effects. She displayed that the bullies themselves may have a form of a mental health issue that could be causing them to bully. From her research, she stated, “More than half of youth who qualified as traditional bullies and cyberbullies had clinically significant anxiety scores and clinically significant depression” (pp. 72). With the mental health of those who bully she also stated the mental health of those who are bullied. From her research, she stated, “Youths who are bullied are more likely to report depression, low self-esteem, and suicide attempts…” (pp. 72). With that she presented a study that displayed how the ethnicities handled being bullied with depressive symptoms, suicidal ideation, suicide attempts, and other. The study’s conclusions were Hispanics and Asians responded to the bullying with depressive symptoms, Whites mainly responded with suicidal ideation and African Americans responded with other the most often, she did not specify what all other
