Strengths and Limitations of the AMCD
Cultural advisory competences allow counselors to be aware of their own cultural values, and prejudices. A great strength is they aware, of how the cultural background influences the attitudes, values and prejudices that are held. On the other hand, counselors can recognize the limits of their multicultural competence (Arredondo, Toporek, Brown, Jones, Locke, Sanchez & Stadler, 1996). The knowledge received in the literature is complete, and interesting. As counselors we must know the reality of multiculturalism in a general way. But in the professional practice two recommendations that I give are the following.
Two Recommendations to Enhance the Guidelines.
Focus on continuous knowledge according to the culture, you want to attend. Counselors must know how to deal, with ethics, and respect everyone. But if you want to work, for example, with marginalized children from Latin American countries, you should start doing research, and be in contact with communities of these nationalities. Therefore, if we want to work, for example, with marginalized children, we need to know what is new within the field, and continuous learning will keep us updated in our professional work. The new tendencies within our field of work, require updating, and be committed to the change that is being created, and within the cultural diversity, although the history has already influenced so much, new events within the field will give us the opportunity of a new reflection towards the treatment of our
