Working with different populations, different levels of employees and personality types is challenging, but then again, it could be rewarding as the same time. My experience of completing the American College of Healthcare Executive’s' Competency Assessment Tool gave me the insight of a true leader. The one crucial concept I came to appreciate in leadership is to know individual leadership style and use the characteristic when interacting with people.
In Giltinane’s article on leadership style and theories, he defines leadership as a multi-facet process to identify goals, motivate other people to act on the goals, and provide support and encourage others to achieve a common goal (Giltinane, 2013). A charismatic leader inspires, motivate and influence the followers through charismatic communication of setting the goals and motivate the team to achieve the goals.
Although, one style of leadership is better suited to different times and situations than another. However, it is important to understand which leadership style best fits the needs of a given situation. Even with the many traits, characteristics and strengths attributed to a charismatic leader, it is prudent to develop another leadership skill.
Waite & McKinney (2015) stated that as a leader, it is imperative to identify the instinctive, intellectual likings, forms, and inclinations when interrelating with others and when making decisions.
