Public schools versus private schools seems to be a debate as to what is more beneficial to a child, including the effects of parental involvement at home and the factors involved in the schools of choice. Both schools have advantages and disadvantages that need to be looked at and addressed to the personal needs of the family and children. When deciding between public or private schools a lot of issues come into play that need to be factored in. The most important factors to be considering are academic reputation, class size, location, religious affiliation and most importantly cost. According to a special report published by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) in 2002, in 1999-2000, approximately 27,000 private schools accounted for 24 percent of all schools in the US and 12 percent of all full-time equivalent teachers”. (Chen, 2016) Most importantly parental involvement at home plays a bigger role in the success of a child regardless what school they attend. (Chen, 2016) Ultimately, there are no right or wrong answer regarding these choices. The best thing is to consider what is best for children by outweighing these factors.
Academic reputation and class size are very large factors to be considered in choosing a public or a private school. Overcrowded schools and schools that are falling below the bar are good enough reasons to be watchful for other options of education. For a lot of people wonderful public school options exist making this an easier decision to decide. However, these great or even decent public school options are not accessible to many. Everyone wants what is best for our own children but by truly taking the time to look into all the factors for public and private schools and options including academic reputation, class size, location, religious affiliation and cost. There are no right or wrong answers to what’s best, but everyone will have a better understanding to what meets the needs of the children and family involved if research is properly and thoroughly done. Most importantly the involvement that is carried at home has a bigger influence on children then any chosen school ever could.
