Nursing Homes VS. Assisted Living Facilities. Many people confuse nursing homes with assisted living facilities, but there are several important differences between them. There is a very thin border, which separates the nursing homes from the assisted living facilities. The primary purpose of both of them is to provide medical care and assistance to the residents. However, there is a difference in the level of care provided in each of them, their eligibility criteria, privacy provided, their cost of living, amenities, social activities, and the coverage by the insurance. The similarity between a nursing home and an assisted living is that, both of them provide some level of medical care and accommodation to the residents. But the difference is in the type of care provided and the type of patients admitted. The patients admitted in a nursing home or an assisted living are called residents. The residents of a nursing home might require some assistance or complete care for the activities of their daily living; they might be alert or totally confused. These amenities include serving three meals including snacks, housekeeping, laundry services, salon, access to emergency call buttons, telephones, television, and a means of solving disputes and grievances. There are some other activities and amenities which separates a nursing home and an assisted living facility. Going to the movies, camping or trips to museum or library are not offered by a nursing home, but they are offered by assisted living facilities.
