I believe that the novel Hatchet told the story better than Cry In The Wild because it has better details than the movie for example when Brian knew he had to do something he thought it out before he did it . The cry in the wild when he knew he had to do something he didn't really plan it out like Brian did in the book. The book hatchet did show his feelings better than Brian in the movie because Brian in the book hatchet when he seen the pilot's face in the plane he said he felt like throwing up. In the movie brian just got his head out the water and went back in the water and got the survival pack. In the book Brian really showed how he felt about the divorce Brian in the movie had dreams about it . In the movie
The important similarities, such as how Billy saved up for and bought the dogs, the way he chopped down a giant sycamore to fulfill a promise to his dogs, and the red fern that had grown on the dogs’ graves, are all there, showing that the movie producers read the novel before they started producing it. However, the lack of an Old Billy, an actual win, and Ann’s almost death shows that the analysis of the book wasn’t quite complete when they started filming. As a result, most of the book was better than the movie, as the attachment to the characters was greater due to the scenes that were in the book, but not in the movie. The only part of the movie that was redeeming was the lack of the “first chapter,” when Old Billy gave away the win in the novel. Since that part of the plot was not in the film, it kept the victor of the competition a mystery, and therefore keeps the suspense there during the hunt. The book I chose for my book review was Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen. The genre of this book is Realistic Fiction and is 195 pages. In Hatchet, Brian is on a bush plane visiting his father in Canada. The pilot suddenly had a severe heart attack, and unexpectedly died. Brian lands the plane in the deserted northern woods of Canada and has to learn how to survive in the wilderness. This book review includes my opinion and the summary about Hatchet.
In my opinion I think that Hatchet does a better job of telling the story better than“A Cry in the Wild”,because it tells you how he feels when he does something. For instances in “A Cry in the Wild”it doesn’t tell you how he feels when drives the airplane,but in Hatchet it says that he felt like the plane was alive in page 4 of Hatchet. Also in chapter 9 in Hatchet it said that when he built a fire he said that he felt like the fire was his friend also gave him heat and light. In the movie “A Cry in the Wild” it didn’t even say anything. It showed how he did it and boom there was fire.
Could you survive in the Canadian Wilderness, ALONE, for 54 days, without anything but a hatchet? I don’t think that I could, but that is what the main character of Hatchet, 13 year old Brian Robeson, had to do in order for there to be any chance to get to go home. Brian changed a lot throughout the story, mostly in good ways. He was a little city slicker, with no experience of doing anything, but when he was the only survivor of a plane crash, and was stranded in the Canadian Wilderness, he had to figure out what to do… even when things get hard. He got attacked by a vicious moose, and was hit by a tornado in the same day, and normally that would have made him want to end it all, but the new Brian did not give up, and restarted everything
Ib both, the reason why Bruno goes with Shmuel to the other side of the fence is to find Shmuel’s papa because he’s missing. Bruno and Shmuel ended up dying the same way in both versions, although there was much more detail in the book. The book also goes further in time to after the incident. This was the biggest similarity between the book and the movie.
Main Theme: The story Hatchet’s theme is determination, perseverance and survival. Brian Robeson, whose parents are divorced, flies to visit his father in Canadian wilderness. His pilot has a heart attack and dies. Brian managed to land the plane in a lake, and escape unharmed. Now comes the hard part, surviving in the wilderness until rescued. He does have one tool to help him, a hatchet that his mother had given him as a gift. He will have to use it, his own determination, imagination, perseverance and common sense to survive.
The purpose of any and all texts is to criticise our society, whether that criticism is found in a novel or a film. This is established in the Novella ‘Animal Farm,’ written by George Orwell and the film ‘V for Vendetta’ by James McTeigue. Both of these texts analyse the way society is managed and how the populations can permit this management.
Richard Wright’s novel Native Son and Oliver Stone’s film Natural Born Killers are works that focus on the act of murder. Native Son deals with the large impact that race has on the way society sees both white and black communities. Natural Born Killers shows how one’s past and the media one is exposed to can affect ones view of violence. Throughout both the novel and film killing becomes natural to the characters due to the way society has conditioned them.
It was a relief that the director incorporated the part where Rex says, “Brian's head is so hard, I think the floor took more damage than he did” (13). The plot is still the same. The movie matched the book well in this scene. In the movie, this was true as well.
Many people may say that the movie Simon Birch and the book The Scarlet Ibis are practically the same story. Both of the stories have many key point in common. And both stories have a similar lesson of how little actions can cause a big impact on someone's life. Some of the differences do give each story their own flair which in the end causes a different impact on the reader and viewer.
In conclusion, details involving the characters and symbolic meanings to objects are the factors that make the novel better than the movie. Leaving out aspects of the novel limits the viewer’s appreciation for the story. One may favor the film over the novel or vice versa, but that person will not overlook the intense work that went into the making of both. The film and novel have their similarities and differences, but both effectively communicate their meaning to the public.
Many novels contain a character who is placed in a situation that changes their development. The best or worst of their personality can emerge, as well as their attitude towards those around them. Crucibles can be individual tests and are noticeable in most literary pieces. Commiting a sin or allowing yourself to have all the power in a community, can cause a crucible in your life, or in a fellow individual’s life. In The Scarlet Letter, The Crucible, and Animal Farm , the protagonists experience a situation that alters their perspective of themselves and others.
One thing that can make a book good is characters. In the book, there were many more animals in the farm. The movie did not show many animals except for the main animals. Even thought this is a small difference, it can be noticeable. In the book, Mollie was a character.

From reading the book and watching the movie, I think the book was more insightful, but the movie was more entertaining. The only problem with the movie is that you don't know what is going through Chance's mind and his background information. The movie does help make some things clearer by seeing it, instead of just picturing it in your mind. The added scenes in the movie helps to put some humor into the story and make it more entertaining. By just watching the movie, some people could be confused if they don't know some background on Chance. I think that by reading the book, you can understand the story better and by watching the movie you can enjoy the story better.
