Too Many Students, Too Little Parking
Students are often compared to sharks as they circle their territory each morning, looking for a chance for them to strike. These college students are not as dangerous as sharks, but they are desperate for a parking space so they wont be late to class. “ I have to get to campus 1-2 hours early before my class even starts to get parking. If I don’t arrive to campus early, I will be directed by security to park in the overflow parking on the complete opposite side of where my classes are,” says Chelsi Spirn, a 20 year old Junior.
For Fall 2015, the Palm Beach State Community College Lake Worth campus, 18,566 students are enrolled and there are only 2,510 student parking spaces available, according to John E Smith, the Colleges Director of Security. The parking lots in the morning are atrocious because so many people take morning classes rather than late afternoon or night classes.

I feel that the classes and professors that are offered in the morning compared to the classes and professors at night are a huge difference. At night there is not a big variety of professors or classes for students to take, therefore they tend to choose the early morning classes because there are better times and professors offered at those times. Due to the fact that students want to take these early morning classes the traffic and parking is absurd. “ I have to hunt people down and follow them to their cars just to ask them if they are leaving to get their spots. Pretty embarrassing if you ask me,” says Kaila Kreuzburg a 18-year-old freshman at the Lake Worth
The parking control office is currently operating with thirteen full time employees and approximately ten part-time student assistants. Of these twenty-three people, only two are able to work the counter where tickets are paid and appeals are made. With the increasing number of students and visitors on campus, more traffic is coming through the parking control office. There is often a long wait in line, which eventually leads to hostile attitudes from the customers. These problems only slow the process down even futher. This increasingly slow process is beginning to cause time related problems on part of the students, visitors and the staff of the parking control office.
Students may need to nap to compensate for energy expended throughout the day. However, if schools were to start later, adolescents would not have to nap, allowing for a larger window of time to spend with their families after school, even with a later start time. Another opposing argument is that students would have less time to participate in extracurricular activities. However, this issue can be resolved by making practices for sports and club meetings shorter and more frequent to accommodate the schedule variation. Overall, the benefits of later start times far outweigh the drawbacks.
Parking on Campus is a Pain New students entering Concordia College are not permitted to have a car on campus. With each new freshman class entering every year, parking represents an issue. Concordia is as of now constrained in its parking on campus and since first year students are not permitted to have cars, the students are confronted with the problem of having no place to park or parking very a long way from their goal. There are parking issues everywhere throughout the campus, making backups in residence hall and other lots, bringing about students parking illegally to avoid from walking far distances, which can be very aggravating in the bitter cold. Parking nearer appears like the reasonable thing to do, however it is a hazard, which
When the bell rings for students to go home the quiet and serene field of asphalt in front of school becomes a sinkhole and everyone is fighting to get out. Most school parking lots are accessible, safe, and orderly; the Hinckley-Big Rock High School parking lot is an accident waiting to happen. With so many problems, a slight redesign of the schools main parking lot would seem practical.
Being a student at Texas Woman’s University I am aware of some of the problems that occur on campus. Unfortunately, the parking situation here on campus sticks out like a sore thumb. Whether you can’t find an open parking space anywhere on campus or whether you just can’t justify paying $70.00 for a parking permit when it doesn’t guarantee you a parking spot. Not only are students fighting traffic to find a parking spot, but they are also having to park long distances from their class, which can become a major problem in the middle of winter in Texas. All of these problems faced by students that attend this university all boil down to how more parking needs to be added to this university. Throughout this essay I will inform you about a possible
Another benefit of later school start times is health benefits for the students. Because of the hormonal
Crime and fear of crime on campus are major concerns for college students, parents, administrators, and policymakers. Students must feel comfortable living on or at least walking on campus. College populations may be more at risk of sexual assault than the general population because they are in the age group that experiences the most rape generally and because they participate in many dating and social activities. In addition, substance use of all kinds is common among college students and it increases risk of victimization by reducing the aptitude to battle unwanted situations. Yet the majority of college students are not victimized. Fear of crime can stem from many things, either the population size, neighborhood you are in, age, gender, and even your ethnicity. There is much curiosity that is growing with wanting to understand the level of fear on campuses at Universities all around the world. Questions such as what constitutes this fear or how safe is the university are essential.
When parents send their children to school, they expect them to be protected but if students leave campus , they will not be under the protection of school anymore. Since students have a predefined amount of time , they would rush and the rate of car crashes could increase during the lunch hour. In a recent article on teen driving it was stated , “ Car crashes are the number one cause of death among teens in the United States. Despite an increase in seat belt use and a decrease in drunken driving, the fatality rate for drivers

Also there needs to be additional parking on campus and also for those that are visiting the campus. The parking lots have also plenty of pot holes that can damage student car and can cause a flat tire. If a student hit another student car it’s hard to find out who did it because there isn’t enough policemen out in the parking lots looking. Brittany
Safety is a tremendous issue on college campuses, and additional procedures need to be taken to prevent crimes from happening. When walking onto a college campus as a young adult, people get a rush of the unknown. The unknown could be going to college parties and late night study groups. College should be like any high school or elementary school and have better security measures to protect their students. The reasons we need these extra steps are to prevent violence, give students a sense of security, and monitor visitors on campus.
Parking legally by the residence halls is almost impossible. Students who live at particular dorms find themselves faced with the problem of having to park on the other side of campus. Students who live in the valleys comment that they are surprised with the numerous tickets that are written every day and how it isn’t always clearly spelled out where they can park. They complain on how some parking spaces involve lengthy walks in the freezing cold weather, and how easily the lots fill up. Whenever I'm riding with someone and they have to park by my hall or any other, they usually park in the 30 min parking and leave their car there for hours, or in the faculty lots to avoid walking from the lot up the hill. These actio...

As a simple example, the parking lot next to the Sarkeys building is always full. This problem is a continuous, daily hazard. As a student required to maintain a lot of class schedules and activities, I suffer from the parking problem daily and find that others encounter the same. It is true that the university is working on a new parking garage, but during the construction process, there is no alternative way to settle the crisis. The official home page of OU parking and transportation services is a source to consider for exploring the problem.
