Too Many Students, Too Little Parking
Students are often compared to sharks as they circle their territory each morning, looking for a chance for them to strike. These college students are not as dangerous as sharks, but they are desperate for a parking space so they wont be late to class. “ I have to get to campus 1-2 hours early before my class even starts to get parking. If I don’t arrive to campus early, I will be directed by security to park in the overflow parking on the complete opposite side of where my classes are,” says Chelsi Spirn, a 20 year old Junior.
For Fall 2015, the Palm Beach State Community College Lake Worth campus, 18,566 students are enrolled and there are only 2,510 student parking spaces available, according to John E Smith, the Colleges Director of Security. I feel that the classes and professors that are offered in the morning compared to the classes and professors at night are a huge difference. At night there is not a big variety of professors or classes for students to take, therefore they tend to choose the early morning classes because there are better times and professors offered at those times. Due to the fact that students want to take these early morning classes the traffic and parking is absurd. “ I have to hunt people down and follow them to their cars just to ask them if they are leaving to get their spots.
