What is your career goal and why have you chosen this field of learning? Explain the process for choosing your college/university for this career. (250 word maximum for all)
My mathematical knowledge is a special gift. I have comprehended math problems from simple addition up to calculus significantly easier than my fellow classmates. Whenever I am stuck on a problem, I refuse to quit until I reach a solution. I was introduced to an actuary occupation as a freshman in high school, and I have been intrigued ever since. Actuaries manage risks and predict probabilities, like the probability of me receiving the Lily Scholarship (85.93%) or the probability of me getting into Purdue’s Honors College (51.67%). In addition to Purdue’s campus and diversity, Purdue is part of the 8% of universities in Indiana that allows students to pursue Actuarial Science. Only 50% of those schools have an Ultimate Frisbee team, a sport I plan to pursue in college. Furthermore, Purdue’s hospitality and members were very welcoming every time I visited the campus, whether it was for a campus visit or a swim meet, and this accounted for 74% of my decision to attend here. Purdue has a 93% retention graduation rate, and a 51% graduation rate which are increasing annually. Not only is the graduation rate fairly decent, it has an 83% employment rate after earning a degree. Out of all the Boy Scouts who attempted to reach this prestige, only 5% have acquired this title since 1912—a very exclusive group and I am humbled to be a part of it.
My Eagle service project was to install a series of tree identification stands in proximity to the plethora of trees around Kendallville’s Bixler Lake Park. The identification stands make hiking trips, camping, and walking more informative and educational. This project tested my leadership skills and experiences which display my knowledge through the years as a scout and as a student.
The rank of Eagle Scout is more than an achievement; it symbolizes the skills, wisdom, and knowledge a Boy Scout has gained along his journey. This Scouting journey has taught me a myriad of information that cannot be expressed in words. This experience has helped shape me into the dexterous person I am today. I have proven to be an enthusiastic leader, and the title of Eagle Scout represents my greatest strength, my work ethic.
