I believe Clark Atlanta University will prepare me for future leadership by creating and building new traits within me. I want the opportunity to prove that I can become someone significant even with the guidance of my peers. By attending Clark Atlanta University, I will be able to learn the skills that a leader should possess, whether within my classes or within my community. During my junior year of high school I was involved in the “B.E.E. Club” which is a mentorship for young ladies that help support freshman female students to achieve their goals. I was also actively involved in the “Fashion and Design Club” which is to advocate personal development through leadership, social etiquette, and corporate skill to build confidence, and poise. Clark Atlanta University will teach me how to be become a better listener, show commitment, and have a positive attitude. Having the ability of being a great listener will be a way that I can communicate my ideas and concerns of others. With having a positive attitude, it will achieve positive results. I strongly believe that Clark’s mission statement best defines my attributes as a future leader. The purpose of the mission statement is to prepare a diverse community of leaders to excel in their chosen endeavors and to become responsible, productive and innovative citizen leaders, locally and globally. This statement is what truly sparked my interest in Clark Atlanta University as the school for
Throughout the years of being a student at Council Rock, I have come to the realization of what a true leader is. A leader is not someone that just plans events, collects money, or shows up to meetings. Rather, this is someone that has a true connection with their peers, and has unmatched passion for what they do. With this, I can confidently say that since seventh grade, as a young adult, I have been shaped into an individual that fits these traits. Since that time, I have been involved in student government,
I hope to be able to get closer to my goals by becoming a part of this. With SkillsUSA, my college application would stand out to my selected college, so I can have a greater chance of getting accepted and building up my medical career. Also, with the leadership program, I hope to become someone who people look up to for her self-confidence and her positivity, just like I look up to other people. I want to be able to learn how to lead people to be a better person so that they can teach others as well. I want to become someone who isn’t afraid to show that they are smart, and I hope I get this out of
The focus of the mission statement is geared towards the qualities they would like the students of the college to develop. For example, “Spring Hill College forms students to become responsible leaders in service to others.” This is a clear goal that Spring Hill College would like to instill in every student. Another clear example would be that statement that reads: “We offer our students a thorough preparation for professional excellence...”. The author does not stray from the main goal and presents the mission in an elegant and comprehensible way. This makes the mission statement more effective than a mission statement that does not present a clear
I aspired to play a significant leadership role in all of the activities someday, and over the course of my high school career, I thankfully have. This year as a senior, the student body elected me as the president of Student Council; members of National Honor Society (NHS) did the same; future business leaders elected me as the vice president of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA); and I received the votes to secure the office of secretary in the local Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter. Coaches and teammates have named me as an important asset as well. Over the years, these opportunities have presented me with many chances to enjoy extracurricular involvement, meet new people, and mature into a
In the first place I come to Rutgers University an experienced Man, experienced in life. I've grown humble, stronger and smarter over the past 12 years since earning my Bachelors. I hold a degree in Administration of Justice with a minor in Sociology from Southern Illinois University. Undoubtedly, I've been dreaming of attending Rutgers since 2015, when I allowed my mind to think of returning to College. Recognizing now with my first degree I didn't understand the beauty of University life and the true opportunity I was privileged too. Currently my dream of being a Rutgers student is to walk the campus with a renewed sense of purpose and a better sense of mission, driven to become an attorney. My experience in the Army taught me as a Man that I move more purposefully when I have a well-defined mission. I know exactly what I want to achieve at
I would like to become a member of the Presidential Leadership Academy (PLA) because I am determined to be a successful student at Elmhurst College. The program is focused on helping students, like me, who need academic support and guidance. In order to reach my best, I will need the friends, mentors, teachers, and advocates who I would be fortunate to meet in the Academy. The PLA will prepare me to be self-reflective as I continue to become a more thoughtful person. I consider myself a leader and an independent thinker, I am aware that I have much to learn about how to be a responsible, productive, and successful leader. The PLA would show me how to take the initiative when I have a good idea and yearn to put it into action. When I enter the workplace or join a club or organization, I want to have the leadership skills that help me, my peers, and society. I believe that becoming a member of the PLA at Elmhurst College will change the path of my life. I think that it would help me in ways I cannot even imag...
I am sure that not too many graduates from WCU can claim to be an alumnus times three! I have had the privilege of receiving my Bachelor’s degree, my Master’s degree, and most recently my Doctoral degree from the newly designed Educational Leadership program at WCU. I have had the honor of taking classes from some of WCU’s paramount professors, including Jane Schultz, Ellen Bacon, Lisa Bloom, Casey Hurley, Robert Crow, Kofi Lomotey, Kathleen Jorrisen, Anne Allen, and David Sutton. I offer a special shout out to Dr. Dale Carpenter, who was not only my professor and early advisor, but he was also my inspiration to continue to flourish through all three levels of my education. Lastly, I wholeheartedly lift up Dr. Brandi Hinnant-Crawford for
Growing up and becoming a Christian was nowhere on my life timeline. In my early teens I accepted God as My Lord and Savior. Who knew that from that day on my life would take a huge turn. Before this huge turn I didn't know what it was to include a daily prayer nor know the reason why I attended church. Eventually I became mature and was able to comprehend God's purpose for my existence. It was like a puzzle waiting to be solved. I view my life as special because I stand out to people who don't know what it's like to live in a Christ-like perspective because it's a reminder that I see the power of Jesus and they don't.
Because of this club experience, students will be better college candidates due to their leadership skills. Future success will be a topic we discuss, especially through application of skills we educate. Our focus is not service or diversity, rather educating students with the necessary skills to make a difference and be successful during and after high school.
While at New Tech High at Coppell I believe I have learned how to effectively communicate, accept criticism without being defensive, be flexible and cooperative, and exemplify what it takes be a recognized as a leader. I have keen listening skills, choose my words carefully before responding and always work cooperatively with my peers. At the end of my freshman year I applied and interviewed for Learner Leadership Council and served as an active
Coming into this major I had no idea what to expect and the same went for this course, but I did know that it dealt with leadership, something that I have been steeped in for a good part of my life. So with that, it was hard to really set any goals as to what I would want to improve in with my leadership style but I was able to pin point a few aspects that could use some work through learning about different leadership techniques and methods. By learning about how leaders are formed, different approaches to leading groups and various aspects effecting group dynamics, I could determine an individuals or my own strengths in leadership and the methods necessary to effectively lead various types of groups. Also by observing many others in facilitating the after school program it gave me much more of an opportunity to see what works and what does not, this is an opportunity very few leaders get without being thrust into a role that they are ill prepared for.
Are small beginnings desirable or worthwhile? Am I beneath a person just because I do not currently have a college degree? Am I capable of leading others? How do I lead and succeed? If placed in a leadership position, will I succeed? These are some of the questions that I asked myself prior to starting at Palm Beach Atlantic University Organizational Management and Leadership program. However, the Leadership for Academic Success course has answered my questions. I am a leader. However, I need to equip myself with the knowledge and skills necessary for the leadership responsibilities. Therefore, in this course, I have learned many lifelong skills that will assist me in the betterment of my education such as: setting short and long term goals, what type of learner I am, my learning style, how to management my time wisely, how to study smart, how to improve my testing and reading comprehension skills and most importantly, my critical thinking skills. Also, the Discovery Wheel assignment which was broken into ten categories: time, money, diversity, communicating, test, thinking, motivation, reading, note taking, and purpose revealed things that I did not know about
For this reason, I have decided to pursue my studies in the field of Business and Leadership at Marylhurst University. I want to pursue a well-rounded education at this established university where I also can have life experiences in the outside world, which will ultimately help me to become a successful leader in our family business. Early education followed by a liberal arts university education is the foundation for an educated person; it gives one a broad scope of knowledge and a well-developed core of functional skills. These ski...
Williams. I was thrilled when I came to work here to find that Mrs. Williams is the type of respected but approachable leader that is my preferred leadership style. I am grateful to have her as my mentor for this learning experience, as I feel we match closely in leadership qualities. My strength as a leader is the supportive leadership style. Like Mrs. Williams, I feel that building relationships and a culture of respect and trust is key to being an effective leader. As a teacher, I spend a good amount of time at the beginning of each year building a rapport with students and families which helps me connect with the students. As a leader of teachers I feel that being supportive of my faculty and staff will be most beneficial in helping develop a productive work environment and develop a necessary level of trust with all of the staff under my supervision. I also want to be participative and achievement oriented. I have always had a drive to be successful in all I do. I am confident that this skill will carry over to my role as a leader. The one area I will need to work on is being directive when necessary. I am not always good at being direct and want to protect others feelings. I will learn from Mrs. Williams as I continue through this program how to be directive with faculty and staff, as well as disgruntled
My interest in the University of Tulsa is strengthened by the required practicum and field experience, as well as, excellent faculty and facilities. I intend to pursue a career in applied research and organizational consulting, therefore, these qualities are imperative to myself and my career.
