“The best thing about memories, is making them.” In Jonas’s community no had ever made memories .They lived perfect lives in an utopian society, but never had a choice. Everything was chosen for them. Their jobs, names, and whole lives where planned out for them. I would not give up my life of making choices for a life of sameness. People make choices, good and bad, but these choices are what make us who we are and without them we would just be ordinary people living in sameness. In a world without color everything would be black and white. Living a life without color would be dull and boring. “ The life where nothing was ever unexpected. Or inconvenient. Or unusual. The life without color, pain, or past.” To live a life without color would be like drawing a beautiful picture without coloring it in. The world is the picture and without color it would feel as if something was missing. I would give up a life of sameness, of not making choices to be able to see color. Living in a world without love would be pointless. There would be no one to care for one another. Without love no one would feel cared for or wanted. “There could be love”, Jonas whispered. In the Giver using the word love was not the right use of language. It was considered not the right use of precision of language. In the Giver no one loved one another. No one could express their emotions. To give up my freedom and my ability to love someone else to live in a perfect world would not be worth it to me. Love is the basis or true relationships. Most everyone has someone they love and care
