What is abortion? Abortion is the direct and purposeful taking of the life of a human being inside the womb. The church teaches that abortion is forbidden just as murder is forbidden. As Catholics we believe that all life is sacred from the moment of conception till death, and the killing of a human being unborn or born is morally wrong and we are to go against abortion. We as Catholics are taught to show respect and protect human life from the moment of conception. From conception, the embryo must be defended, cared for, loved for, and healed, as much as possible, like any other human being should be. God gives life from the moment of conception and we don't have the right to take it away. Pregnancies that result from rape aren't reasons (Certain conditions could excuse this penalty, such as the ignorance that the Church teaches against abortion, or mitigate the penalty, such as ignorance of the penalty itself). An excommunicated person is no longer in communion with the Church. (It is like being kicked out of your house. On the one hand you are still a child of the parents, but on the other hand, you do not enjoy any of the benefits of living under their roof). Therefore the excommunicated cannot go to confession until the excommunication is absolved, usually by the Bishop. He or she is not to receive any other of the sacraments either, and may not have any official part in the celebration of Mass, or any other ceremonies provided by the Church, though he/she is still invited to be in attendance at these public services. The person shall not receive the benefits of the Church at death, either, including Catholic burial. The purpose of the excommunication from the Church is not vindictive. Rather it is supposed to act like medicine causing a person to reflect on the danger his/her soul is in as a result of the grave mortal sin committed, and bring her/him back to repentance i.e.
