One’s own free choices are what is said to be the acts that accumulate in one’s life, which overall, forms who we are as a person. Along with the blessing of free choice, also comes the extreme importance for knowledge. “For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth comes knowledge and understanding (Proverbs 2:6)”. The Lord provides an individual with the gift of knowledge, to know when and when not to act, and to know the difference between such moral and immoral acts. Only now, it is up to the individuals to base their free choices on their knowledge. Abortion is defined as the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy. Being born into a Catholic lifestyle, one is taught and raised to believe in God’s words and wisdom, and to follow the blessed scriptures. However, even though one is raised as a Catholic, it does not necessarily mean that each and every individual will agree with what the Church’s views and opinions are. In fact, Pope Francis himself stated that disagreement with the Church’s views does not mean that one is not a good Catholic, and even more so, He believes as though it is a good sign. Therefore, with personal reasons, I do not agree with the Church’s views on abortion. I believe that the decision of abortion should lie on the mother’s hands, and not on the views or opinions of others, for after all, it is their body. When hearing of an abortion case, others are usually quick to judge women and to insist that there are other options in which do not have to end in abortion. However, society does not know what can drive an individual to the need of having an abortion. When abortion is the result of a tragedy, such as rape situations, I believe that the termination of the pregnancy is much easier for the mother to cope with rather than having to face the unwanted results from the tragedy. In certain terms such as if the pregnancy brings harm to the mother, and if the mother is unable to cope with the child for whatever reason, I then too believe that the mothers should be able to abort their babies. For instance, in situations where the child was to be born into a corrupt lifestyle with unhealthy figures around him/her, or if the mother is too young or not stable enough to watch over the child, I accept the fact that an abortion would cause less potential harm to the child, and in fact, I personally believe that it is more cruel to bring a child into a world of harm, than it is to abort. Although there may be many opposing forces towards my opinion, it is ultimately no one’s decision but the person who is involved.
