On 3/14/2017 JASA APS Social Worker Shantea Granville had a heavy duty cleaning but there was a snow storm. The snow storm made it difficult to conduct a cleaning or even reach Genesis. On 3/15/17 Nurse Larisa Adler from New York Health East Maximus to conduct an assessment on Anthony Rizzotti. Nurse Adler came to the staff office to explain that Mr. Rizzotti apartment is unbearable to live in. SUS Staff explain to Nurse Adler that this is independent housing, however we provide trash bags and plan assisting with cleaning but when the day comes he changes his mind. Mr. Rizzotti had a schedule heavy duty cleaning provided by JASA but due to the snow storm that cleaning was not conducted. Wellness Coach Ms. Cain called JASA APS Social Worker

Throughout my life, I have found myself always striving to help others. This has been bestowed upon me since I was a young child. My brother, Justin was born with health problems. He had to be fed through his stomach from birth to he was five years of age. Because of Justin’s health conditions he was a lot smaller than kids his age. He was held back in school for a year and he was still eight inches shorter than the other kids in his class. With all of his ailments and his stature I felt that it was up to me, his big brother, to be there for him and defend him from anyone picking or ridiculing him. I later helped my mother teach second grade kids in Sunday school. This opened my eyes to a lot of learning diversities
1970, Genie was found by social workers in Los Angeles, California. She was severely abused which caused her to be extremely developmentally delayed. Although Genie was 13 when the social workers found her, they had believed she was between five or six years old due to her lack of development. From the age of 20 months until 13 years old, Genie had been locked in a dark room alone and tied to a potty chair. Some nights she was left in that position, others she was tied into a sleeping bag or to the side of her crib. She never was socialized or even spoken to by her parents. When Genie was found she could not walk correctly, eat properly, or speak in any language, except short phrases such as, 'stop it' and 'no more'. Genie was admitted into Children's Hospital in Los Angeles; where specialists started to take care of her and started to try and teach her how to speak.
Through previous work experience and time spent as an undergraduate student, I have developed various strengths, skills, and knowledge concerning social work. I have strengths in my readiness to learn and my eagerness to be in field. I have direct practice skills through participating in SOWK 4425 – Practice III (Wright, 2016), and I have acquired ample knowledge on theories, policies, and social work practice through other social work and supplemental classes at Texas State. Furthermore, I have experienced self-discovery to find that I have a set of values that correlate with the core values found in the National Association Code of Ethics (2008). Critical Social Work practice is an ideological framework that bridges the gap between a dichotomous approach, in which there is struggle between delivering services to the individual or targeting social structures (Salas et al., 2010, p. 91). A practitioner analyzes both the macro and micro levels to determine the best course of action (Hayden, 2016). York University uses critical social work as their framework to avoid a dichotomous practice by presenting an innovative mission statement which is in align with the theory’s principles shaping the profession.
Miss Lynn Peterson is an LPC NCC. She graduated from Mississippi State in May of 2014 and joined a practice the following September. She works with anxiety, trauma, and grief patients; this is her general population. I contacted Miss Peterson because I saw that she was interested in trauma; I am interested in PTSD and working with veterans. I was interested to find that her favorite population to work with are grief patients. I could tell she was very enthused about making people happy about themselves, and I found this delightful. Miss Peterson sounded very genuine and caring over the phone. I understood why she was in this profession, it was just very natural for her; I hope it is the same for me.

Ms. Apple is a 45 year old African American woman who has been a widow for about 4 years. Ms. Apple has three children, whose ages range from 5-12 years old. Ms. Apple has been struggling to keep her family afloat since the death of her husband. Ms. Apple convinced herself that she would not require the extra assistance. However, she realized in attempting to provide alone has not only become very strenuous, but also quite costly. Expenses have become overwhelming for Ms. Apple to maintain, since her husband took care of the finances and was the breadwinner for the family. Ms. Apple has minimal education as she is able to read and write at grade school level. Ms. Apple also has never been employed as she was a home maker. At this point, Ms. Apple is in need of financial assistance to provide for her family. In this paper, I will address how the following concepts would handle the need of Ms. Apple, according to the Elizabethan poor laws of 1601, the Charity Organization,, societies, and the position of an Institutional and Residual Worker.
Existential psychotherapy is based on a series of existential theses, proposing identification to existential anxieties/ crisis and internal ontological rebalancing through personal/ human growth. Gestalt psychotherapy proposes achievement the convergence between consciousness/ behavior and experience, "between the figure and background" (Wheeler, 1991, 65), while positive psychotherapy is based on the belief that all people are fundamentally good and they have the constitutional capacity to be happy (Seligman and Csikszentmihalyi, 2000, Seligman, 2002). Precious does not attend a typical high school, like other 17 year olds. In fact, many aspects of Precious’ life are not common for adolescents in her developmental stage. According to Ashford and LeCory individuals in the adolescence stage are still developing parts of their brain that control emotions, problem solving and judgment (2013). While Precious may be handling a lot of adult situations, there are areas of her brain that are still learning how best deal with these events. As Precious’ social worker I recognize that she may struggle when it comes to handling big decisions, like how to afford supplies for her children or where to live, more than someone in early adulthood. To resolve this Precious and I will be working with her case manager and teacher at “Each one, Teach One” to help her apply for jobs, government funding and housing.
I obtained my Masters in Social Work (MSW) degree from India in the year 2006. As with most countries around the world, the emergence of social work in India was from charity aiming to eliminate poverty. Gradually it shifted from philanthropy to rights based approach and then to organized social work. Community organization surfaced as the most central method of social work practice along with practice of casework. Although social work is much more structured in nature now, it still operates along the conventional perspective of social work. Social work is not even recognized as a profession in India. The social workers in both videos gathered information regarding each of the client’s issues. Another common denominator in both videos is that both of the social workers repeated what the client had said in their own words to allow the client to feel heard and understood. In the first video, social worker Karen asked direct questions relating to Mike’s alcohol addiction while also addressing how the addiction impacts his relationships including his marriage. Karen also addressed inconsistencies with the client doing so appropriately and quickly. Cultural issues encompass all factors of society that influence people’s opinions, beliefs, and choices like public relations, religion, politics, and media to name but a few (IHE, 2015). It is vital to analyze the role of culture issues in society to fathom factors that affect a community. Every community faces complex problems regarding government, healthcare, education, and socialization structures. The ability to understand cultural facets that influence residents’ decisions is imperative in solving social challenges. Advocacy is essential part of social work that was established over 100 years ago, beginning with fighting for social justice and the creation of many important social policies (Talbot & McMillin, 2014). As an advocate social workers fight for the rights and wellbeing of individuals, particularly those in high need and/or unable to stand up for themselves. Advocacy can be done at the local, county, or state level and can take on many forms including, connecting individuals to resources, community organizing, networking, protesting, policy making etc. (Talbot & McMillin, 2014). Social workers often see first-hand the challenges clients face who lack basic human needs and who are struggling to navigate the social service system.
My future is to be a Social worker. I will be helping people to cope with challenges in their lives.
