Working at Britannia Pharmacy has advanced my knowledge in mental health and different physical health disorders which have reinforced my interests in healthcare. I was able to assist patients when they required medication or just advise on specific medications that they are taking. The knowledge that I have gained from the various types of medications given, has increased my awareness regarding the various types of disorders. I have also had the opportunity to carry out the different services the pharmacy offers, including carrying out glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure and chlamydia tests and processing the minor ailment scheme. The relationship and the connections built with the patients and other members of the team, made me realise that this is the sector that I want to work in for my career. During this pharmacy role, I was introduced to tasks that are carried out by a physician associate; this included taking medical histories for the pharmacist before he gave specific injections or before I carried out the glucose, cholesterol or blood pressure test.
Working at Britannia Pharmacy introduced me to many disorders as I had direct contact with patients and doctors/ general practitioners.

Alongside my undergraduate degree, I also worked in a retail store which allowed me to develop some vital skills required for my chosen field such as teamwork, communication and leadership whilst also gaining knowledge about disorders, the biology and drugs. Studying psychological therapies enabled me to increase my skills as well gain an insight into the mental disorders that can arise alongside the physical health. This course required various group work that included teamwork. As many of the students were international students, my communication skills enhanced due to the language and culture barriers. Working as a physician associate at the hospital and the GP would require having direct contact with the patients and so, volunteering as a befriender allowed me to work through different challenges and use my initiative to complete the tasks to provide care and improve their quality of
