Did you know that the first female bobsledding race was in Salt Lake City in 2002? The bobsledding portion if the Winter Olympics has been a huge part of the olympic experience for many years. There are several interesting topics in bobsledding that will be included below. What is the main goal of bobsledding? The goal is for a team to cross the finish line as quick as possible: in a gravity powered sled going about 90 miles per hour. The race in on an ice track, with the average length of about 1200-1300 meters. This is a timed race in which you have four runs and the aggregate of all the scores wins. The time is kept electronically to the hundredth of a second. The fastest speed ever recorded in a bobsledding is 125 miles per hour or 201 kilometers per hour. The goal of bobsledding is overall relatively complex Winter Olympic event. The Winter Olympic sport bobsledding has a lot of The sleigh that is used is a high tech gravity powered sled. The high tech sled makes this sport more competitive because it increases speed and is more advanced. This sport, as most do, has quite a few safety rules and precautions. The athletes have to wear special plastic helmets. This rule is in place to protect the athlete from head injuries such as a concussion. The athletes are also required to wear goggles to protect their eyes from the snow or ice that could fly up and hit them. They also wear tight uniforms and spiked shoes. This causes them to be faster while they run. There is one athlete on the team that wears a kevlar vest. The breakman wears one to protect their chest from third degree burns caused by the sled. To correlate with safety, there is a rule that says all of the team and the sled must cross the finish line to be qualified.
