Belvedere, some may not know what it is; Belvedere is a type of vodka. This advertisement originated in the UK but it was banned for it’s content. In this advertisement, it states “Unlike some people, Belvedere always goes down smoothly.” It shows a man that looks as if he has been drinking, with a woman who looks frightened by him touching her. It kind of portrays that drinking vodka is an okay way to be able to attack or sexually assault women. The social group that this ad aims to persuade, are men that drink liquor. The social groups being represented in the ad is men that drink liquor and women involved in rape culture. Are men going to be able to have control over women, especially when they drink this drink? It’s shows that drinking liquor is easier to go down then a woman that they are trying to assault. The ad reinforces traditional gender norms because it is agreeing that rape culture is okay. It is agreeing that men should be able to have their way with women. It is showing how men, under the influence, feel as if they are more dominant than usual over women. Men are seen as predators that the women have to get away from. It shows how women are victims to the overpowering dominance of men.I do not feel as if the ad successfully challenged the traditional gender norms, mainly because it encourages men to drink this liquor which may lead to the sexual assault of women. They may feel that this liquor may help them be able to take their victim down. They are basically putting women is danger to the point that they no longer feel safe around men under the influence of Belvedere vodka. This advertisement gives off negative feedback on how the liquor makes the men act. This advertisement tells you Belvedere is easier to get down unlike sexual assault victims; they will put up a fight. It makes men that drink this liquor seem lifeless and disgusting, the way the advertisement shows what happens when this liquor is drunk. I highly doubt that this advertisement would make companies want to buy this product for their own stores or bars. They would not want any issues with women being sexually assaulted, or them being accused for it. I feel as it this advertisement was still out, people would blame this liquor for many sexual assaults that may have happened to women over the many
