I want to take the challenge because I want to prove to everyone, especially to those who have rejected me, that they made a wrong decision for not choosing me. They say, “Work hard in silence. Let your achievements be your noise” and so I did. This is my third year in the program and I’ve always been giving my very best to the tasks that I’ve been given. Throughout the past 2 years, I’ve shown my hard work and dedication to the unit. I’ve been through many rejections, but that didn’t stop me to get to where I am today. I may, or may not, be the best cadet, but I will never give up on something that I’ve been waiting for, which is to become a chief. I am aware that It’ll be hard, but this is what I’ve been preparing myself for from the beginning. I’m currently a Platoon Leader and there are 17 NS1s in my platoon. Being a Platoon Leader is very challenging because your cadets are looking up to you and expecting you to be accountable for at all times. To become a good leader, you will have to learn how to become a good follower first. As a good follower, you must have the energy to support the leader, have courage to speak up, or stand up, for the leader if he or she is doing something he or she isn't supposed to do, must pay attention to details at times, must engage, and it is very important to be on good terms, in the group, those who are having difficulties must not ignore those who are in need of help. Leaders who were good followers, will be more effective. Not only because they have an experience of being a follower, but they know what to expect from their future followers. I am independent.
