Standing on the beach always gives me an odd, specific, and special feeling. It's like being awestruck. I mean actually struck, too. It hits me like a sharp slap on the cheek, taking my breath away. The idea of the seemingly unending vastness envelops my mind. It's almost unfathomable, something so big. It puts my tiny world to shame. I know so little, all the places I know are so small compared to the sea. Such a large body of water could swallow all I know without even being affected. It can scare me, the insignificance I feel as I stand on the beach. While my mind is left reeling, my body takes in the physical feelings. All the different weather changes the nature of my thoughts, just as it changes the way the world feels. Sunny days, clear
Place has a major impact on the persons comfort. We describe place with our interactions and the thinks we value in that location. The sense of place can be someone’s home, the beach, a lake, and the location of their first kiss. My special place is Table Rock trail in the Pickens, South Carolina. I knew this place was special to me because of the different interactions I experienced that not only created new memories but also resulted in me thinking about old memories. The most meaningful quote is from the novel Children, Youth, and Environments, “sense of place is the lens through which people experience and make meaning of their experiences in and with place” (Adams pg. 23). I will never forget the emotions I faced when reflecting next to the waterfall with nothing but nature surrounding me. Table Rock was a place that was meaningful and I sparked a connection to the location, which resulted in creating special
As I gazed out at the everlasting turquoise ocean, I felt a weight being lifted off of my shoulders. I felt my whole body fill with a wave of relief as I studied my surroundings. A vibrant blue sky possessed no clouds, and the sun hung right above my face and reflected onto the water making it easier to see into the water and spot the fish and turtles. I stepped off the wooden boardwalk and headed into the ocean flippers first. As my flippers slapped the top of the crystal clear ocean, I then plunged under water.
Sense of Place I was sitting on this boulder just feeling the breeze flowing through my hair. It was a familiar feeling, yet not familiar at the same time. I'm used to feeling the wind in my hair as I run track, but feeling it as I sat, watching the vast desert around me was so different. It has been a long time since I just sat looking and listening to nothing, no youtube, no television, no electronics, just nothing but the breeze.
as I gaily walk down the shoreline of the Outer Banks. My all time favorite
The deeper you go into the ocean, the cooler the water gets; this also helps the body to reach that comfortable temperature that helps the body in the relaxation process. During the decent, you can see many different life forms all around you, in the distance. Finally, you arrive at your destination and begin to see the colorful coral reefs as you get closer. Also, you can see the many schools of fish swimming all around; it transports you to a different place and time. When you are at your destination and get to admire the site, it seems that everything slows down, the movements of everything around you look so mellow and peaceful.
The sun shines. The thin glistens in the footlights. The wind swirls nearby me, disconcerting eroticism sand unfitting my feet. I pile up the tide, frightening the calm bathe as I pork out. The thin surrounds me, engulfing me in its enthusiasm.
he sea was pale and still on that overcast morning. Not a single trace of sunlight penetrated through the thin dense white clouds, as a thick fog slowly rolled in over the still, silent once bright turquiouse waters. It was silent and flat as glass; gleaming with an almost faint silvery light. The wind was quiet as well. Even the gulls and birds whom flew around early in the morning searching for food were quiet as well.
Don’t just focus on what you see. What do you hear and smell? What does your body feel like in this place? Look for the hundreds of minuscule details that surround you and make a place feel foreign. Be brutally honest with yourself about the thoughts that pass through your mind.
We traveled a shadowed path; the caravan crawled between folded mountains bridged by a natural limestone overpass. The tapping of gravel ricocheted off the cliff's face, chips of rock and grit broke from its crumbling ceiling—the sun flared beyond the grotto. Lush lowlands rolled a stormy ocean. Mounds of tumbling soil dotted in sparse trees filled the gaps where tides would swell as domed mountains that peaked to clouded heights. The crumpled plains surged with countless veins, water reflecting skies of a perfect blue and quenching the thirst of flowered meadows.
It was heaven, considering I had been burning up for last twenty five minutes. Along with the air, the fragrance of salt water also rushed in and it surrounded me until could not smell anything else. I could hear the powerful waves crashing against the sandy shore. The segals were loud as they circled the beach searching for their lunch. Down on the beach people were chattering and laughing as they conversed.
The cold water seeps through the tough outside of my dive booties and surrounds my feet. Looking around, I crunch up the beach, the kayak handle pressed into my palm and curled fingers. Kayak scraping, I pull it up the beach onto the wet, rocky, sandy, shelly, earth. Stepping from the newly beached kayak, I turn my gaze slowly drifting to my brother, who I see is doing the same as I had. Pulling his kayak from the water.
For a long time, the fear of open water had plagued me. I ended up sitting with my knees curled up to my chin, watching as the waves rolled by. The dark waters seemed to swallow up whoever
As I lay on the minute golden grains of sand, I looked up at the brilliant sky, adorned with flashes of pink and orange and purple, mirroring the colours of a flawless seasoned apricot. The goddess-like sun’s face is being embraced by the demure navy fingertips of the skyline.
I use any excuse to walk along the ocean, especially alone and without my phone. The wind blew cold air, but the sun’s warm rays kept my body at a perfect temperature. It was three in the afternoon and I was calm.
The silence is unusual, but the faint sound of the wind and the waves in the distance give the feeling of a warm blanket. The sound is absolutely intoxicating! This is where I feel most ‘at New York.’ It is not in the center of Times Square, or Central Park, it’s the loneliness of the cold winter beach that makes me feel at home. If I could just bottle this feeling and bring it everywhere I go, I would be so
