History of LaGuardia Community College: LaGuardia Community College was founded on January 22, 1968 by a declaration of the Board of Higher Education of the City of New York, a New York State agency which was the agency in place before the Board of Trustees of the City University of New York. The college's first president was Dr. Joseph Shenker, who had been Acting President of Kingsborough Community College. At age 29 he was the youngest community college president anywhere. In October 1970, the Board of Higher Education, named the new college after Mayor LaGuardia. The college was officially opened on September 22, 1971.
An author’s way of writing and portraying a character are one of the important things to note when reading a novel. Whether they use third or first person as their view point, have their main character have an underlying dark secret that is not revealed until the end of the novel. However an author wishes to write their novel, there is always a drawback to it. Kazuo Ishiguro’s way of writing his novel Never Let Me Go is in a first person perspective where the narrator, Kathy H., reassess her life of being a clone but the way Kathy remembers and discusses her memories of living in Hailsham is hindered by the fact she inputs her own feelings and thoughts into what happened in the past.
East Boston is very different from the rest of Boston’s neighborhoods. It is geographically separated by the water and is accessible only via the Sumner tunnel, Callahan tunnel, or the Blue Line of the MBTA. It used to be accessed by a ferry service but the ferry was discontinued in the 1950s (Page 3 of the second book in the kit). It is an ethnic enclave with a large Hispanic and Latino population (page 4 of ACS in kit). This was easily visible when walking through East Boston. As cars were driving by with open windows, loud Spanish music emanated from the radios. An Eastern Bank on Meridian Street had advertisment signs in both English and Spanish to cater to the clientele of the neighborhood. Also, at La Sultana in Maverick Square, the employees spoke to each other (and to Spanish speaking customers) in Spanish only.
Throughout this research paper, the discussion topic deals with whom or what Berea College should serve. Sources will be used to discuss the Appalachian region, Christian colleges, the Berea territory, and the history of Berea college. The topic of discrimination will also be discussed mainly focused upon what it is, how it can be used for good, and if it is okay to practice. Berea should primarily serve students who come from poor economic background regardless of their race, region, or religion because students might not have the same opportunities at another institution. When I first became passionate about pole vault, I realized the sacrifices required to be successful. I spent countless hours of my free time practicing and getting stronger for competitions. I lost sleep at night because I was on the track too long and I would wake up in pain from the previous workout. However, I feel even more passionate about serving in the Army, and I understand the sacrifices that come with it- time, youth, money, safety, comfort- and I would not trade this honor and privilege for anything else.
I believe that I, Christine Kuykendall, am a good candidate for a spot in National Junior Honors Society. I hold all of the core values, I am an all A student, and I love helping in the community. I am also a very hard worker and I believe that I can do great things in National Junior Honors Society.
Throughout my first year in middle school I have really started taking great thought into my future. I have realized that I am getting closer to my adult life and that I need to start to plan for the type of future that I wish to have. As much as I enjoy team activities, I do think of myself as more of a leader and would like to go about planning my career in this way. I am determined to go about things at an advanced pace which is why I believe I should be part of the National Junior Honor Society.

She brought up the topic of separating emotions of going into war, “You have to make decisions that break your heart, that hurt and deceive, that no one else will understand. It’s your duty”. That isn’t always the case, where you have to rise up the courage to tell someone in power, that they are doing their job wrong and even if they are living their life wrong. There are many things that B&N and its book publishers can do to stimulate more business. The best strategy in my opinion would be to make more deals with large companies like Apple and Samsung. These companies are at the height of every competitive market in electronics, from cell-phones to televisions, and hold some of the most loyal customers in the market (Surowiecki, 2013). If B&N wants the Nook to stay in the competition, they have to market their product to be appealing in today’s society. To do this they have to factor in competitive prices, capabilities, and other features that can compete with top sellers. Joining up with larger companies will not only increase exposure, but also put B&N and book publishers on the same platforms as their competitors.
When Amazon.com first began in 1995, as strictly a book retailer, Bezos knew he had discovered an excellent company. After all, a physical bookstore cannot stock anywhere close to the number of books Amazon can offer online. Within a year, the company had a customer base of approximately 340,000 consumers and daily site visits were huge as well. But Bezos wanted to expand the company to offer music and DVDs, because he realized there was little or no barrier of entry. In the next years Amazon would emerge as a marketplace, expanding the company globally offering products from toys to kitchenware. Because of the relatively cheap prices Amazon was offering and also the growing number of online shoppers, the company was doing tremendous amounts of sales and creating profits.
