Throughout my first year in middle school I have really started taking great thought into my future. I have realized that I am getting closer to my adult life and that I need to start to plan for the type of future that I wish to have. As much as I enjoy team activities, I do think of myself as more of a leader and would like to go about planning my career in this way. I am determined to go about things at an advanced pace which is why I believe I should be part of the National Junior Honor Society. While working through this past year of school my future has become my top priority. I always make sure that I work hard, that I am keeping my grades high, looking into activities to better my academic career, as well as being the best person
I’m so happy to be given the opportunity to join National Junior Honor Society(NJHS). I would love to be a member. I think it is important for kids to be involved in the community. Also, myself personally it would be an honor to be a face for our school.
History of LaGuardia Community College: LaGuardia Community College was founded on January 22, 1968 by a declaration of the Board of Higher Education of the City of New York, a New York State agency which was the agency in place before the Board of Trustees of the City University of New York. The college's first president was Dr. Joseph Shenker, who had been Acting President of Kingsborough Community College. At age 29 he was the youngest community college president anywhere. In October 1970, the Board of Higher Education, named the new college after Mayor LaGuardia. The college was officially opened on September 22, 1971.
On February 19, I along with the American Presidency Honors class visited both the General Grant National Memorial and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The General Grant National Memorial contains the remains of Ulysses S. Grant, the 18th president of the United States, and his wife Julia Dent Grant, in tombs. This tombs are in the center of the lower floor which also contains memoriam dedicated to other important members who fought in the war with him. In the ceiling of the building are artwork decorated to honor General Grant. On the ground floor, of one the original American Flag is hung on the wall. I was very excited when I heard that I had been invited into National Junior Honors Society. The first time I heard of NJHS, it instantly became a goal of mine. When my older sister left for college I was very sad, so I think that this is a way for me to keep a part of her. I have always been that little girl no one understood, because I’m always very excited to learn and get back to school after summer break. I’m very happy to see that I’ve been invited, but this is why I should be accepted.
The National Honor Society is a very prestigious organization that I would love to be a part of. It was an honor to be nominated as a candidate. I am currently a sophomore in high school, and I have always wanted to be a member of the National Honor Society. As I look back over the years and think of the times I have attended the ceremonies and saw all the awards the members received, I recall saying to myself “That’s going to be me one day.”. I asked my teachers about all the requirements that had to be met to be a National Honor Society member and I made it my main goal to meet each and every one.
As a student at Northvale Public School, I have grown up with my older siblings being inducted into an organization called the National Junior Honor Society. I had seen all the hard work and dedication they put into their school work and activities just to get into this society, making me want to be just like them. Then a few weeks ago, I found a note on my desk in homeroom telling me that I had been nominated to be apart of this society. Through citizenship and character, leadership, and service, I intend on being inducted into the society I have heard so much about. Though it will take a lot of effort this school year, being a part of this society is a dream of mine that I will make sure to come true.
The National Honor Society is based off of four pillars: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. School is an extremely important part of anyone’s life, and I feel blessed that I have had the opportunity to attend Lutheran schools from Kindergarten until the present. Our Shepherd Lutheran and Lutheran High Northwest have helped me to grow in my faith and to continue to grow academically as well. Attending these schools has also allowed me to participate in many different extra-curricular activities such as Varsity Soccer in my freshman year, Varsity Track my sophomore year, Pit Band for school musicals, Jazz band, and Pep band. This 2009-2010 school year I also have the opportunity to be the First Chair Flute and Piccolo in regular Concert Band and the other band functions which will provide me with an opportunity to gain experience in leadership which will help me in college and in my future career. Service is an important activity to participate in. During the past two years I have helped my mom and the rest of the committee at my church with funeral luncheons. When there is a funeral at my church the family of the deceased has the option of having a luncheon at the church, and if they choose, following the funeral, the committee that my mom is on takes care of getting the food that the family wants, serving the food, and then cleaning up after the luncheon is over. When they need help I also go and help out. Also, my family recently became a Foster family for the Michigan Humane Society. In November of this year, I am going on a mission trip to Madrid, Spain, with my cousin, who is a pastor, and a group from his church, Valley Springs, in Roseville, California. Our main aim is going to be talking to the college students there and trying to plant churches. We are going to be helping them work on their English, and I will get to use my Spanish. I have also had the opportunity to work in the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer nursery which was my first paying job. Every Sunday morning I am in the nursery from 9 until 12, or later if needed, watching peoples children up to four years of age while they attend church.
While embracing the start of my High School career, my academic endeavors have allowed me to grow exponentially as a person. The unique extracurriculars and courses that the Freshman Center have provided, allowed me to take charge of the opportunity to challenge myself academically. With that challenge, coincidentally allows for another opportunity to give back to the community; allowing to make a positive impact in subtle ways. The National Junior Honor Society provides the opportunity to do just that, and beyond. The corner stone of this Honor Society relies on the solid foundation of the five pillars: Character, Service, Scholarship, Citizenship, and Leadership.
Becoming an intrical part of the National Junior Honor Society would be a great privilege. NJHS established in 1929. From its conception, it has validated five guiding principles, which are; enthusiasm for scholarship, desire to render service, leadership, responsible citizenship, and development of character. Thus, I would not only like to join for the academic recognition, but to further develop and challenge myself within these areas. For many years, NJHS has paved a road to success for many alumni. Hopefully soon, I will be counted amongst them.
I plan to exemplify and emphasize scholarship, leadership, character, citizenship, and service in my school by pushing myself to the limit and acting as a superb model for my peers. This includes giving advice to my classmates, putting my best effort in all of my classes, being kind to everyone that I meet, showing people ways they can make an impact on our society, and spreading positive messages throughout Rocky Run Middle School. I will use the full extent of my abilities to serve and shape my community by showing people the consequences of hard work and effort. As a member of the Rocky Run Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society, I wish to help people, lead people, and show people wisdom.
In middle school I have participated in as many school activities as I possibly could. First of all, in 6th and 7th grade I was part of Student Council. In Student Council we worked on projects to improve the school, participated in community service, and fundraised to help others. One project I took a big role in was the Olympia recycles project. Secondly, I have been part of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) for 2 years now. Coming into my senior year I was very anxious and ready to get it over with. Everyone kept telling me that it was going to be the easiest year of high school, but I completely disagree. I would not say it was my hardest, but most definitely not the easiest, I did enjoy it though. It was very fun during the whole year, but once it came down to the last three or two months I began to give up. I was so ready for it to be over, and the more anxious I was the slower it seemed to get here. Unfortunately, I missed the main things that really mattered this year, like my cap and gown fitting, my last year book picture; all because I did not want to come to school this year. I really did not see no point in coming since I only needed two more credits to graduate, but in the 3rd quarter my
Senior Year. The year that is your last one until responsibilities catch up with you and it’s time to get serious. I don’t think that’s true; We’re all loaded with responsibilities no matter the age or time; even at the age of thirty, the task of tidying up is still the creeping feeling that haunts the back of the mind until attention is given to it. Though in high school, the main responsibility is graduating with good enough marks to get somewhere but I am part of the group whose main responsibility is graduating with flying colours and a scholarship from the university I intend hope to attend. Everyone told me that senior year was going to be so easy. They said you’ll get to relax, go on field trips and watch movies most of the time. They were WRONG! Senior year was the hardest year ever. You don’t have any time to play around or slack off. There are so many projects to do in every class it’s ridiculous. As a senior you have to be on top of everything such as grades, colleges and tardies. Although the work was hard, some of the activities and projects we do are really fun. The classes that I take are honors classes or senior classes. For honors physics, we are going to Cedar Point.
