Animal euthanasia can be a very serious issue to talk about. Everyday, thousands of unwanted and stray animals were put into animal shelters. When an animal is suffering from illness and has no chance to survive, euthanize it may be the most humane thing to do. However, there are many animals shelters (kill shelters) in the United States that euthanized animals even the healthy ones to make more room and because they are low on money. Many people called this action “murder”. However, if you really think about it, kill animal shelters are actually more beneficial for animals than no-kill animal shelters would. They will not accept the animals that are too old or have any medical issues. No-kill animal shelters are also known to be at capacity since euthanasia is not an option even if the animal is not adopted at a certain time. Therefore, the shelters can’t keep taking in more animals if the shelters are full beyond their capacity. They have to stop taking in new dogs and cats. So what happens to those animals? Well, they either end up in a kill animal shelters or simply be tossed out in the street and die in a painful death. This is why euthanasia becomes a solution for population control. It usually becomes a last resort to avoid overpopulation. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is a animal welfare group that support kill animals shelter. PETA senior vice president Daphna Nachminovitch said, “If you don’t euthanize animals due to overcrowding, they get into fights. They injure each other. They kill each other.
