Should Community College be Free? College is a new step in life that leads people to better paying jobs and better lives in general. Going to college allows people to socialize within each other to create lifelong friendships as well as degrees and certificates. However, students need to be encouraged to stay in college and having free tuition will not allow this. Community College should not be free because class sizes will get too crowded, tax money will go up, and programs for low income students already exist. The article titled “As He Promotes It, Some Question Obama’s Free Community College Idea” by Joanne Jacobs states that “the promise of free tuition could make the problem worse by drawing more students to already crowded community college campuses” This means that more students will be coming in to community colleges instead of striving for universities. Since there won’t be enough money to make classrooms bigger, students will be crowded. This will stunt people’s learning as they won’t get individual help from teachers and professors. …show more content…

If tuition is going to be free for students, someone has to pay for it. The article stated “The White House estimates that this would cost $60 billion over 10 years.” This money instead can go to better things such as trying to make universities less expensive. If universities and are less expensive, more students are likely to apply and get in. That means there will be a diversity in the amount of students at colleges and universities. If tuition is inexpensive at community colleges, middle to high income students should be able to pay for it instead of having the government do it for
