A $60 billion plan is being invested by Barack Obama for two free years of community colleges for American citizens in order to help with financial need. That means Obama is trying to get community colleges to be free to students that need extra support as they are living or growing up in an unstable house. Yet, community colleges being free would cause problems for many students that do not belong there. Money then would be given to all the students that are attending a community college, even though some of the students do not need extra support, nor want to be there in the first place. Yet, the third reason is the reason that makes the proposal questionable as to whether it is really a need or if it’s a want by the people that want money handed to them to help their future. If people can afford two more years of college after a community college, or they have scholarships to help them pay for the following two years, then why can they not afford a community college that can be less than a thousand dollars to attend to? In Jim Crammers opinion he states, “That would simply pour money onto failing diplomas” (Crammer). That is what the workforce is for. If every student goes to college for a degree with the idea to become rich, then who will work at restaurants, go into the air force, or even stay at home in order to take care of kids or love ones. Life would be totally different. How life is right now is how it will always be due to the economy and the odds of being raised in a family surrounded by lots of money or not is just life. Everyone has their own role and everyone is different, so Obama should not be trying to spend all of America’s money in order to make everyone equal. Students would be better off knowing the situation as to why they live in a poor family due to economic issues or financial needs. But money should not be the reason students go to college or not, so this proposal is not worth the time. There are plenty of scholarships and loans out there that are given to certain people for certain reasons and the only reason someone should have to turn down a community college would be because there is a lack of effort on their own part. They make a community college inexpensive as a way to invite the public to come get an education and if they fail or drop out then they are not out a ton of money.
