In today’s society, life is based off of many different choices. The choices you make in life could have a strong impact on anything and everything in your life! Imagine being put in a life changing situation and not having a say in whether or not you want to experience it. Having a baby is a prime example of a life changing situation and there are debates that argue if it is an experience that should be mandatory for those involved. In other words, several arguments have been made about women and their right to abortion. The definition of abortion is “to terminate a human pregnancy,” which is usually performed in the early stages of the pregnancy. Some may believe that babies are a gift from God and terminating an unborn child is equivalent to murder, which goes against the law of God. In some cases, people consider those who partake in abortions as “killers”, and that no one but God can take someone’s life. Pro-life believers may also think that the life of a fetus should have the same rights as a human being, because the fetus will eventually become a human being itself. Many pro life people argue that if the mother does not want to raise the baby, the mother should still give birth and give the baby away to a safe haven. In doing this the mother would save the baby instead of ending its life. Along with this, there are arguments about certain abortion procedures that inflict pain on the baby and possibly the mother. There is a terrifying procedure that is still being performed in the United States called the partial birth abortion. A partial birth abortion is to terminate a female's pregnancy during the last stages of the pregnancy, roughly after 20 weeks. This procedure is performed at a time is considered late in the pregnancy. An abortion performed this late in a pregnancy, is almost like killing a newborn child, because after 20 weeks, unborn babies are actually able to feel pain at this point while they are being killed or …show more content…

If professional abortions were not made available to women, there are more than plenty of women who could very well take matters into their own hands. Making abortion illegal or unavailable by law, is not going to stop women from doing whatever it is they have to do in order to regain control of their life. In an article written by David A. Grimes, titled “Unsafe abortion: The preventable pandemic,” he states the facts that include how many unsafe, illegal, amatuer abortions are performed around the world and what they lead to. Grimes states, that “unsafe abortion mainly endangers women in developing countries where abortion is highly restricted by law and countries where, although legally permitted, safe abortion is not easily accessible. In these settings, women faced with an unintended pregnancy often self-induce abortions or obtain clandestine abortions from medical practitioners, paramedical workers, or traditional healers” (Grimes). With this, one can assume that if the United States made abortion illegal, the setting and outcome would be no different than that of the outcomes that arise from the developing countries.
