I think that the reading from Bilhartz prepared me for the article. The book on several occasions has mentioned that the main religions were Islam, Buddhist, and Christianity. The article also referenced this, “You could say that religions -- not all religions, but those religions that have come out of what is called the Axial Age: Buddhism, Islam, Christianity -- have been globalizers” (Casanova, 2013). The text also has given us a lot of information on each religion so it all comes together in this article when he talks about other religions and different parts of the globe. Religion has always had an impact on an individual’s perspectives and the government, and this can clearly be seen with Buddhism and the Tang Dynasty. Before Buddhism pervaded China, the traditional religion in China was Confucianism, and the majority of individuals strictly followed the rules and principles of Confucianism. When Buddhism was introduced, every person engendered their own views on Buddhism and the influences the religion would have on the government. The Tang Dynasty generated a prosperous time in China, until the dynasty spiraled down into its demise in c. 750 (Smarr “Tang China”). Many individuals believed that the reason why the collapse of the Tang Dynasty occurred was because of Buddhism and foreign ideas. A Chinese poet, named Han Yu, believed in the concept that Buddhism was the ultimate cause for the destruction of the Tang Dynasty, and his ideas were very influential. Han Yu’s ideas promoted the riddance of Buddhism values and monasteries in China (Smarr “An Lu-shan Rebellion”). Therefore, the question that arises from such observations is was this an accurate portrayal of perspectives during the Tang dynasty and how influential was this portrayal? Although, one portrayal of the Tang Dynasty’s collapse was Emperor Xuanzong’s carelessness, Han Yu persists that the accurate portrayal of the collapse was brought about by Buddhism through monasteries and monks, and selfish values.

As Americans we have to start to comprehend that the world around us is changing technologically, politically, and economically. In “The Last Superpower” an excerpt from the book The Post American World by Fareed Zakaria published in 2008. Zakaria emphasizes on these changes. Thomas Friedman the author of “The World is Flat” a piece from the book The World is Flat: A brief history of the twenty-first century published in 2005 also emphasizes on the same changes currently happening in the world. Zakaria and Friedman define these changes as globalization. The obvious common ground shared by both authors is their representation of globalization and the effects that it has and will continue to have on modern life. In contrast to sharing the same main topic both authors take a drastically different approach on how the relay their information to the audience. The differences displayed are mainly due to their personal and educational backgrounds, definitions of globalization as well as the individual writing styles of each author.
This paper is a comparison between two very different religions. Specifically Christianity and Buddhism. Coming from opposite sides of the globe these two religions could not be any farther apart in any aspect. I will discuss who Christ is for Christians and who Buddha is for Buddhists. I will also get into the aspects of charity, love, and compassion in both religions and I will be looking at the individual self and how christians see resurrection where the buddhists feel about the afterlife. One thing to keep in mind is that the two religions are very different but they seem to have a very similar underlying pattern. Both believe that there was a savior of their people, Buddha and Christ, and both believe that there is something good that happens to us when our time is done here on earth. This is a very generalized summarization but in order to go in to depth I need to explain the two religions more to fully convey this theory.
One fact that I don’t mind agreeing with Pankaj’s point of view is that, we are not completely globalized, for I consider globalization to be something that keeps on developing and growing and there is no set limit to it, we will keep growing as far as there is imagination factor alive and going in human civilization for attaining better stands of living.
The World’s Religions by Huston Smith is a novel based on the different religions found around the world. The main area of focus within this book was to expand the knowledge of different cultures and their religions. The chapters that were specified to focus on include Islam, Judaism, Christianity and the Primal Religions. Go into detail about each religion. Smith goes into great detail about each religion, concentrating on the teachings and essential elements of each religion, important people that helped form the religion, and traditions. He specifically discusses how these three religions are very similar rather then how different they are, with the main studies on Moses, Jesus, and Mohammad. Finally he discusses the Primal Religions – meaning the traditions that are passed down through oral communication.
In fact, in the beginning I faced a difficulty that where I should go for my final assignment. Until one night when I was having dinner, I talked this problem to my host mother, who is a Japanese woman. She asked me what religions I had learned from this class. Then I said that I had learned about Judaism, Zoroastrianism, Christianity, and Islam. She was surprised that Buddhism was not included in this class. Plus, she knew that Buddhism is one of the most popular religions in China. Thus, she suggested me that I go to visit a Japanese Buddhist Temple, where is located closely in my house. When I first heard this suggestion, I was pretty interested in it. It was because I do not really know much about Buddhism, even although I am a Chinese, and I am very interested in Japanese culture. Also, I knew that Japan culture had been influencing not only in my hometown, but every corner in the world. Hence, I accepted my host mother suggestion to visit this Japanese Buddhist Temple in the following Friday, because I thought it would be a great opportunity to understand this influential culture and religion, which we did not discuss in this class.
Economic factors have also been attributed to having caused a decline in this prominent religion at the time. Based on the evidence, a link between Buddhist monasteries and long-distance trade routes existed in India. These connections helped facilitate both its spread and sustenance, thus it was not a surprise that Buddhism appealed to merchants, bankers, trader, financiers, and artisans. There was a symbiotic relationship present between Buddhist monastic institutions and trade networks, and this was proved by the fact that the monasteries worked not only as rest-houses
Throughout the centuries there has always been religion. Religion has been an enormous part of the world since the beginning of time. There is always people debating about their religion and others. Today, the main religions that i'm going to discuss are Christianity and Buddhism. Religion has and always will be a controversial topic across the world. There are approximately 4,200 practicing religions in the world today. Religion typically is passed down from generation to generation in different societies. For example, here in Mississippi, we are in the region commonly known as the “Bible Belt.” There is a church found almost everywhere in the area, and the dominant religion is Christianity. However, if you were to go to Salt Lake City, Utah, the majority of people there would be Mormon. What I was interested in seeing is what some of the major religions were and what those particular faiths believe, so I have done research on Buddhism, Hinduism, Mormonism, Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. Since religion is so complex in depth of information, I have simply narrowed down my discussion to their history and general beliefs.
