2.2.3 Pos Dipang Landslide (29th August 1996)

A mudflow that occurred near Pos Dipang Orang Asli in Kampar, perak was claimed 44 lives where 39 bodies of 44 total number of death was successes found, while the other five bodies were failed to found until now [20]. The incident occurred due to heavy rain where it softened the soil and easy to collapse or slide. The mud and debris entered to the Dipang’s river, creating mudflow and become huge debris flood.

According to Komoo’s report (1997) [15], he stated that,” Excessive rain events that occurred initiated the event that fateful day. The incident was caused by heavy rains and construction work on the hill when the blockage in Taman Ukay Bestari collapsed, resulting in soil and mud from there gliding down and hit and bury the 3 blocks of longhouses inhabited by 160 people on the slopes and slope View the Zoo hill. Water mixed with soil, accumulated at the cut slope, causing the soil structure becomes weak. Rain water flowing through channels created from the terrain and stagnant under the foothills reclaimed.
Excavated slopes reclaimed using soil and rock believed to be the route for the construction of housing projects in the area. After the landslide, soil movement continues to occur and some floor house in Taman Zoo View (in the face of Kampung Pasir) is now in a state of "suspended". A total of 16 houses involved. Protracted land movement causing floor balcony and part living a few houses in suspension [23][24].
