Adult nurse practitioners, also known as ANPs, provide health care to adults through a broad spectrum of roles. Their patients range from the age of twelve to senior citizens. They do not have to have a particular “specialty” but can solve many cases and help many people. This is why ANPs can be considered generalists. However, this is not to say ANPs cannot specialize. Options for ANPs include cardiopulmonary care, women’s health, and many more. The job of an ANP is to evaluate, diagnose, and to care for ill patients. The national average is $97,990 as of May 2014. The highest paying state is Hawaii with $ 115,870 and the lowest is Oklahoma with $81,240 per year. Being an adult nurse practitioner is a very rewarding job. From helping patients get back their health, to checking up on the occasional hypochondriac. On a study done by certified adult nurse practitioner, Charlotte Schiestel, it was found that on a scale from one to six, the overall satisfaction score was calculated to be a 4.69 (Schiestel, 2007). This is considered “minimally satisfied”. The study may only show minimal satisfaction, but the importance of this job is at maximum value. An adult nurse practitioner’s job is not easy. One does not become an adult nurse practitioner overnight. Becoming an ANP takes time, effort, integrity, and diligence. These men and woman help save people’s lives and make lives easier for others.
