As I sat on the couch watching men’s snowboard slopestyle at the current 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, I realized that I had found the perfect topic for my I-search paper. I knew that this was the first year that slopestyle snowboarding and skiing was implemented into the Winter Olympics, and that surprised me considering that slopestyle events are popular when in comes to the Winter X Games. I was also aware that this was the first year that women’s ski jumping was allowed to be an Olympic sport. Many question started to arise inside of me about the Winter Olympics. All of the sudden, I wanted to learn additional information about the competition I prominently enjoy watching. I knew that this was the perfect opportunity to do just that. What I Know I have always liked watching the Winter Olympics more than the Summer Olympics. In my opinion, they seem more action-packed, and they always keep me on the edge of my seat, as there are constantly photo finishes and nasty crashes. The littlest thing can prevent the world’s best athletes from winning gold in an event or not medaling at all. This puts a ton of pressure on athletes to produce during each of their performances. A very diverse group of events from alpine skiing to snowboard cross to short track speed skating to bobsledding are enough to keep anybody entertained. I am always cheering for team USA, but it is still very fascinating to see all of the other countries who are competing. During the Winter Olympics, it is inspiring to see athletes, make names for themselves and become heroes for their countries. Now that the 22nd Winter Olympics have started, I am interested to find out more about them. What I Want to Find Out Even though I have a basic understanding of the Wint... ... middle of paper ... ...of the greatest Olympic performances ever; he won five gold medals, and they were all in individual events (news.discovery.com). The Jamaican bobsled team also created a very memorable moment. New.discovery.com stated, in an article Top Dramatic Moments at Winter Olympics, “The team managed to qualify for the Games. During one of their four runs during the game, the bobsled turned over and crashed. Though they didn't finish the race officialy, the team got up and walked their bobsled to the finish line,” (news.discovery.com). Even though they didn’t get a medal, it was still a very memorable moment because they still finished the race, after crashing, by walking their heavy bobsled across the finish line. It was also the first time any of them had even participated in a winter sport. The Winter Olympics have been full of memorable moments. What I Still Want to Know
