William Howard Taft was Americas 27th president. William was born on September 15, 1857. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio into the Taft family. Taft’s dad, Alphonso Taft was a lawyer and public official; he was Presidents Grant’s secretary of war. Taft’s father was a lawyer. William’s mother Louise Maria Taft was Alphonso’s second wife. William had two half brothers, two brothers and one sister. His ancestry consists of English, Scotch-Irish. William attended a public school in Cincinnati. He went to Woodward High School and then Yale University in 1874. He was quite a smart boy; he graduated second in his whole class of Yale University. Williams’s father also attended Yale and graduated in 1833 to later become a tutor at Yale. Taft, after graduating Yale, went to attend the University of Cincinnati Law school from 1878-1880. He became a Cincinnati lawyer after graduating law school. He became a judge in 1887 (Kelly, Martin). In 1890 Benjamin Harrison chose him as U.S solicitor general. Taft had a lot of background before becoming president. In 1904 Taft’s close friend, Theodore Roosevelt, appointed Taft the secretary of war, where he then became a close adviser and friend to the president.

In 1908, Taft was with Roosevelt by his side was nominated to run for president. He became the Republican nominee; James Sherman was his Vice President. Republicans, with Roosevelt's help nominated Taft in 1908. Taft strongly disliked political campaigns, and didn’t want to be president in the first place. Taft was not a talented public speaker and his speeches were usually well reasoned and emotionless. He described the campaign as one of the most uncomfortable times of his life. ... the white house. In addition to Taft’s love of milk he aloes loved almonds. He would eat them whenever he was nervous and was known to eat pounds at a time. Taft was also the first president to become the chief justice of the Supreme Court. Although Taft did not want to become President, he would’ve much rather stayed a lawyer, he was an overall good president and he had many accomplishments.
