In today’s time, people think many different things about angels and demons. Some think that an angel is someone who has passed away and is looking over them. Others think that angels are those who are good and in God’s kingdom singing and praising God. And some people think that angels are both people they know that have passed on and are looking over them and that they are beings in God’s kingdom. Demons are thought of in a couple of different ways. Some people think that they are all of the bad people who have passed away and instead of going to Heaven, they have gone down below and live around fire and evil. Others tend to think that they are bad spirits that live amongst us, though you cannot see them.
Many Theologians have found that the subject of angels is really a very difficult subject to discuss and prove. “Because, while there is abundant mention of angels in the Bible, the nature of this revelation is without the same kind of explicit description we often find with other subjects developed in Scripture: Every reference to angels is incidental to some other topic” (Keathley). Many people in this world believe in angels, but every time they are mentioned they have been bringing a message from God to people in this world.
In the Bible angels are mentioned a lot. “They were created beings (Psalms 148:2 Psalms 148:5 ), and were exuberant witnesses when God brought the world into being (Job 38:7 )” (Wilson). In the Bible, they are mentioned mainly when God wants messages delivered to people. In Gabriel Garcia Marquez's "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings" an angel symbolizes the unfamiliar. The angel is not just a celestial body, but a foreign body-someone who stands out as being different from the rest of society. Consequently, the angel draws attention to civilized society's reaction, ergo the community's reaction within the story when it confronts him. Using the angel as a symbol, Marquez shows how ignorance reveals the vulnerability of human nature often leading to uncivilized behaviour.
The question of identity regarding God and the Devil has been an ongoing dilemma for religious philosophers. No true identity can be formed due to the lack of undeniable evidence surrounding the figures. In addition, it has always been difficult to relate either characters to tangible or worldly matter; seeing how both are non-perceivable and equivocal figments in our minds. A start is to relate these supernatural beings to each other. The abilities of each are in contrast; God can create but not control, whereas, the Devil can control but not create. Creation is the act of making new matter, whereas the act of controlling is forcing matter to act based on the wishes of the controller.
Dante introduces Satan in the “Inferno” as the worst sinner of all times, and he relates his complexity with the sins that he committed and his punishment. Satan is described as the angel who rebelled against God, and hence he has wings. The wings of Lucifer are not the wings that an angel would have; instead he has bat-like wings, which demonstrates that now he has the wings the dark creatures as bats have. The Christian belief of demonic forces has been present since the coming of Lucifer. The Christian views of demons involve the idea of possessions and provide answers to the evil actions that occur amongst the living.
The Bible infers that the angels were created holy and then they were put on probation. God is holy and made all beings with a stamp of His holiness. There were angels that did not keep their first estate of holiness. This infers that the angels must have been holy to have fallen. (Jude 1:6) The term “elect” in First Timothy Chapter 5 verse 21 implies a probationary period. The angels who did not pass probation are called fallen angels. They stand in opposition to God’s work and plan. The holy angels kept their first estate by walking in perfect obedience to God’s will.
Believing in the Angels of God is the second article of faith in Islam. These angels are purely spiritual and glorious beings created by God. These angels are sinless. We can only imagine what angels look like, but what they do is clear. Most people use their ideas and dreams to make their world better by turning them into reality. So dream, the world of reality has its limits; the world of imagination is boundless.

After defeating the rebellious angels, God cast them out from Heaven, placing them in Hell, a despairing and horrid place. Satan describes God as a tyrant who believes himself better than all, placing God as his epic adversary, “...our grand Foe/Who now triumphs, and in the excess of joy/Sole reigning holds the tyranny of Heaven” (1.122-124). Satan refuses to accept his defeat, and rather seeks to enact revenge against God either by once again leading his minions into battle or using his guile.

After reading Book 2 of Paradise Lost, which was about the meeting of all the fallen angels gathered together in their temple, Pandemonium, to plan the next war to take over Heaven once again, I was interested with the different views and ideas that the fallen angels had, such as Moloch, who was the fiercest fighter of the fallen angels, Belial who is cautious about the idea of another war to take Heaven again, and Mammon, who refuses to follow under God’s orders again.
