The Truth About Islamic Women

Does Islam respect women? “Moreover, evil omen is in three things: The horse, the woman and the house." -Muhammad. Both Muslims and non-Muslims assert that Muhammad has been misunderstood and was not so much of a misogynist as this statement suggests though according to the Qur'an "There is still a hierarchy: Women shall with justice have rights similar to those exercised against them, although men have a status above women." Considering these conflicting statements, does Islam disrespect women?
A Muslim is someone who believes in the following declaration: “There is no god but God; and Muhammad is the Prophet of Allah.’ This affirmation that is known as the Shahadah means literally ‘witness’ or ‘testimony’ – is the extent of what it means to be a Muslim. Anyone can claim to be a Muslim or become a Muslim merely by saying these words.
The first part of the Shahadah, ‘There is no god but God’ states the unity of God. The other part of being a Muslim is someone who believes in one universal and omnipotent, and all-merciful God. As a basic rule, Muslims do not recognize God in human terms. (What do Muslims Believe?, Sardar, 1-2).
Islam is both a civilization and a religion, a historical truth that spans over fourteen centuries of human history and a geographical presence in a large area covering over the Asian and African continents and even parts of Europe. There are over 1.2. billion people from different cultural and racial backgrounds who are Muslim, and historically Islam has played a significant role in the development of certain aspects of other civilizations, especially Western civilizations. Islam has become a major presence in today’s world, but its influence is also evident...

Considering this statement by the God of Islam, Islam is on its face, disrespectful to women.
