In life, it is natural to desire things, whether it is to open doors for one person or being able to see your family once last time. This type of desire has spanned over generations from the 1400s to modern day, from Verona, Italy to outer space. Critically acclaimed William Shakespeare, Pulitzer Prize winner Conrad Ritcher, Tony Award winner William Gibson, and Oscar winner William Broyles Jr. demonstrate an important message in life. Nothing worth having comes easy but you should never give up.
In William Shakespeare's most famous play, Romeo and Juliet, two teenagers who fall deeply in love find that their parents' acceptance does not come easy and suffer tremendously. Romeo and Juliet's love is constantly challenged by the rivalry, Tybalt's temper, Juliet's arranged marriage, and Romeo being a murderer. Being together is not an easy task once everything turns against them, even destiny itself. Friar Lawrence even laments, “A greater power than we can contradict Hath thwarted our intents” (Shakespeare 903). Despite the difficulties, Juliet remains determined to make it work, plotting to run away with Romeo. Juliet's determination is exemplified once she finds out she's engaged to Paris. She cannot stand idly by and quickly seeks out Friar Lawrence for his assistance, showing more maturity than before. Juliet understands that simply surrendering is wrong.
Finding one's identity and achieving internal peace is no easy task for Conrad Ritcher's protagonist of The Light in the Forest, True Son. After being isolated from white society and reentering it, True Son is subjected to prejudice, being put down by his uncle for his Native American behavior. He hates white people for their violence but soon finds out Native Americans can...

...d giving up halfway is the wrong thing to do; although all these works displayed this message, I would say The Miracle Worker is best at showing this message because Annie's hard work is genuinely rewarded with Helen's love and mind. Helen Keller was an outstanding person with a big impact on history that never would have occurred with Annie Sullivan's help. She proves that there is no easy way to achieve something of such high value. We have to fight for what we believe is worth it and never give up. Giving up will achieve nothing in life and only leads to regrets. This message holds true to our lives today as presented by Bethany Hamilton who lost her left arm in a shark attack in 2003 but still continues to participate in surfing competitions today in 2011 despite this disability. It is better fight for what is worth having than to look back and wonder, if only.
“Romeo and Juliet”, a play composed by William Shakespeare, is about a boy and a girl who are fall in love with each other at first sight, but soon find out that they have fallen in love with the child of their parents enemy. Seeing fate is not on their side due to the ongoing feud between their parents, they are willing to do anything to be together, which unfortunately leads to both of their demise. Many people question if the love between Romeo and Juliet was true. The love between the two was not true because they fell in love with each other’s appearances, they didn’t know each other long enough to actually figure out each other, and they were hardly thinking straight during the relationship.

The play Romeo and Juliet is a widely known tragedy written by Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet features two rival families and their children. When a daughter of Capulet and son of Montague meet at a party, sparks immediately fly. However, because of their families rivalry, they marry in secret, and were happy. That is until things took a turn for the worst. After an unexpected accident, Romeo is forced to leave the city, and he may never return. Juliet’s not sure she’ll ever see him again and tries to plan a way to be with Romeo, but ends up making things worse. It is an extremely tragic story. Or that’s what everyone is led to believe. However, the play Romeo and Juliet is in actuality a comedy. Between the overabundance of hyperbole, Paris’
First of all, the dishonesty of Friar Lawrence, who married Romeo and Juliet, foreshadows the probability of his continuity to take even more insincere measures in manipulating the consequences faced by the young lovers. The Friar carries out an erroneous act of secretly marrying them under the church’s license without manifesting it in the public and encourages them to deceive their parents by keeping their relationship to themselves. He then agrees to marry Juliet and Paris, a county, and plans on faking her death, in order to avoid the marriage instead of revealing the truth about Romeo and Juliet right away. “I hear thou must, and nothing may prorogue it,/On Thursday next be married to this County.” (4.1.49-50) In short, various incidents in the lives of Romeo and Juliet, controlled by Friar Lawrence’s cowardice result in undesirable circumstances.
Intro: Summary, Thesis, Highlighting main points (Text to Text, Text to Self and Text to World) The tale of Native Son by Richard Wright follows the story of a young man by the name of Bigger Thomas who lives in the 1930’s. In the beginning of the story, we meet Bigger a young, angry frustrated black man who lives with his mother, brother and sister in a cramped apartment in New York. The story is narrated in a limited third-person voice that focuses on Bigger Thomas’s thoughts and feelings. The story is told almost exclusively from Bigger’s perspective. In recent years, the
In “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare, two very young people fall in love but cannot be with each other because of the feud in between their families. The feud ends when Romeo and Juliet both kill themselves because of heartbreak over the other. The minor characters Mercutio, Tybalt, and Friar Lawrence serve as foils to Romeo, to help support the theme of patience.
Friar Lawrence felt an internal conflict within him – the conflict of self against self. He knew in his mind that it was wrong to help a teen run away with her lover, who happened to be a murderer. But he also felt himself reach out to them, as he had known them as his own children for a very long time. He knew what a desperate situation Juliet and Romeo were in, and knew that he could prevent their lives from being ruined. But the problem was that the only way to solve everything, was to take a ‘wrong path’, that everyone opposed. In the end, he ends up helping his fellow children. But by this decision, he affected the whole plot of the play, and caused it to turn greatly. This plan would have turned out marvelously, but he made a few mistakes.
Moreover after knowing Juliet for less than twenty-four hours, Romeo goes to his companion Friar Lawrence and asks him to marry them. True, Juliet is the one who sets up the marriage. However, Romeo is the one who pushed the relationship too far and too soon. In Act 2.3, Friar Lawrence is in shock with the sudden change from Rosaline to Juliet and comments on the ind...
This Land May Be Your Land and My Land but I'll Shoot You If You're on Mine!
Friar Lawrence, a small, yet important character, is pivotal to the play's development. For example, shortly after Romeo and Juliet meet, Friar Lawrence decides to do as Romeo and Juliet wish and marry them in order to make peace between their families; "Come, come with me, and we will make short work, /for by your leaves, you shall not stay alone / Till Holy Church incorporate two in one". (II, 6, 35-37) Though the Friar has good intentions in deciding to do as Romeo pleads, the marriage only leads to complications and deceit. Another instance when Friar Lawrence is a key character is when he gives Juliet a poison that will put her into a deathlike sleep in a plan to reunite her with Romeo; "Thou hast the strength of will to slay thyself, /And if thou darest, I'll give thee remedy". (IV, 1, 73, 77) Friar Lawrence's plan is clearly not well thought-out because it is much too risky and many safer plans would have had better results.
Reckless actions lead to untimely deaths. In Shakespeare’s tragedy “Romeo and Juliet”, both protagonists fight for their hopeless love. Bloodshed and chaos appear inevitable in fair Verona; Romeo and Juliet come from enemy households, the Montegues and the Capulets, who have sworn to defeat one another. The young and handsome Romeo weeps over his unrequited love for Rosaline, until he lays his eyes on Juliet. Strong and independent, Juliet seeks to escape her family’s will to marry her off to Paris, a kinsman of the Prince. Fate ties these adolescents’ lives together binding them to witness the ill-fortunes of Romeo and Juliet’s love. Romeo and Juliet prove themselves woefully impulsive through their words and actions, which ultimately lead them along a series of unfortunate mishaps.
In the play “Romeo and Juliet”, Shakespeare shows that love has power to control one’s actions, feelings, and the relationship itself through the bond between a destined couple. The passion between the pair grew strong enough to have the capability to do these mighty things. The predestined newlyweds are brought down a rocky road of obstacles learning love’s strength and the meaning of love.
“Is she a Capulet? O dear account! my life is my foe’s debt” (1.5.117-118). There are many factors that put pressure on Romeo’s and Juliet’s relationship throughout Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. The young couple is effected in many ways by every instance that creates stress which Romeo’s and Juliet’s relationship is being forced to carry. The biggest factors that impact them are, their families ongoing feud, the broken relationships they both have in their families, and all the instances of miscommunication. Through the story of the couple who meet one another at a dance, sneak around at night to see one another, and fight for eachother, they face challenges many challenges, that add stress to their relationship.
Romeo has a passion for love that is unbreakable, and he will do anything to get who he wants, no matter the consequences that might follow. An example of this is when Romeo goes to Juliet’s balcony and confesses his love for her, but what he does not understand is that “if they do see thee, they will murder thee” (Shakespeare II.ii.75). Romeo has trouble accepting the reality that it will not work out for him or her because of family differences. The intensity of love in both of these texts becomes a dangerous and violent thing.
My first year of junior high, (in our school that was seventh grade) I was not spending all my time trying to be popular like all the other people in my grade. I was just being me how I always had been. One day at I was sitting at the lunch table with a bunch of people I would hang around with sometimes. Some of them were talking about there weekends.
