Public and private information/ they are responsible for educating users to properly conduct themselves to protect the way individuals are viewed and perceived online. This way the corporation can better protect the individual member, regulating positive and negative impacts to individual character online, while still marketing and extracting private information for future corporate uses, yet to be determined. Better explanations are also needed to explain the basic information needed to guide people to understanding the “social media” guidelines as well as implications made from participating in online media forums. First, social networking media are not true public spaces. Facebook, MySpace, and other such networks are privately owned and regulated. Participants give up their rights to the information that they post through the website by agreeing to be part of these online communities at initial sign up (Foulger, Ewbank, Kay, Popp, & Carter, 2009). This will help participants of social media as well as corporations meet in the middle when presenting new information standards about themselves and the way business is conducted professionally and privately online in an ethical fashion.

Facebook allows users to friend any contact (e.g., family member, colleague, acquaintance), provide life updates, and share pictures and videos. Facebook users can post their relationship status, identify family members who are also Facebook users, and list their education and work history (Childs, Martin, 2012). The actions and posts that are made public have substantial impacts that can potentially be misconceived and mixed up by other viewers on the Facebook media website. When we take a perspective of making a self assessment before we post individual opinions and pictures onto social networking web sites we are not only doing the world a favor/ but we are also presenting ourselves with a higher level of self respect. Cautiously continue to use online social web sites to publicly inform friends and family of your day to day actions. Keep in mind you must live with the consequences of others passing judgment, scrutinizing posts updates and people will potentially form inaccurate opinions if posts made lack general ethics and respect. Take a moment and review in your mind if the information intended to be made public is acceptable and ethical; it will truly enhance the experience for all those who choose to use social media as a form of interpersonal communication within community and society as a whole.
