Stepping outside, I instantly notice the fresh, wet scent of earth. As I continue walking, I willingly allow the sprinkling droplets to envelop my entire body. My shoes are soon soaked; with each step I take, I feel a puddle of water move beneath my feet. The rain hurls itself violently on the dark, slippery pavement. My hair is dripping with ice-cold raindrops which plummet to the earth with every movement I make. The numbing effect of the icy downpour is finally setting in. Fierce thunder clouds sneak into the murderous sky and flashing lightning strikes begin. The rain falls faster and heavier. My feet move quickly as I run down the road. I rush into my house and proceed to stare out the window and observe the vicious storm that is only beginning. The weather has the uncanny ability to promptly change a mood. Rain holds several emotions that could be considered polar opposites; they range from cleansing to depression, love to anger, and life to death.
The clean, crystal-clear droplets carelessly fall to the earth. Small puddles are beginning to form and children are running outside to play. As a child, I loved to play in the rain. I longed for the feeling of cleanliness I got from playing in the cold, fresh water. Water is an essential part of the cleaning process. Rain washes away the layers of filth that grow over time. Without rain, everything outside would always be covered in dust. Just as rain cleans off the dirt that has been gathered, tears clean the surface of the eyeball. This makes it so that the eyeball stays moist and useable. Rain falls directly from the sky or the heavens, and is often declared to be tear drops of the gods. ...t, I always assumed that rain was simply a type of weather. To me, the word rain was used as a clarification to help viewers understand. However, rain is so much more than just a clarification on the weather channel. Rain is associated with several emotions ranging from cleansing to depression, love to anger, and life to death. Sometimes I wonder if life would be better without rain; there wouldn’t be as many natural disasters or frequent reminders of depression. But then I imagine not being able to feel renewal and love, or see the effects rain has on life; suddenly, I realize that the positive effects of rain far outweigh the negatives. As you see the majestic rain gracefully floating down, recognize the simple beauty and importance in rain. Uncover those feelings you’ve been burying within you for so long; expose the emotions you’ve been hiding and feel free.

Weather affects the lives of everyone. When the weather turns foul, it makes life more difficult. Stormy weather in Tony’s dreams represents the conflict in his life, and the lives of those around him. One example of the weather in his dreams is the wind. In one of Tony’s dreams the wind is used to represent conflict that disrupts the peace that is a still lake. "There was a howling wind as the moon rose and it’s powers pulled at the still waters of the lake."(Anaya 120) The wind here is used to represent forces of disturbance caused by nuclear testing taking place south of the town, just as wind kicks up dust and blurs the view. Another element of storms is thunder and lightning. In Tony’s dream he sees, ".....a flash of lightning struck and out of the thunder a dark figure stepped forth. It was Ultima......I sought more answers, but she was gone, evaporated into a loud noise."(Anaya 71) Lightning can offer glimpses of illumination, but then darkness returns, and the noise of the thunder that follows deafens the ears. This represents the moments of good that can occur within the midst of conflict. Ultima’s appearance gives Tony a glimpse of where he needs to search for innocence, but he is still confused from this encounter. He continues to search for answers. Another significant weather occurrence is the appearance of mist. " The mist swirled around me. I was at the river, and I heard someone calling my name. I peered into the dark mist but I could see no one." (Anaya 61) Just as the mist leaves a person feeling isolated, the mist represents the war and how it left Tony separated from his brothers. Weather, in the form of wind, thunder and lightning, and mist, provides powerful symbolism for the conflicts in Tony’s life.
The weather motif used the rain to describe an important scene in the book. “While the rain continued it had seemed like the murmur of their voices, rising and swelling a little now and then with gusts of emotion” (Fitzgerald 94) Gatsby and Daisy were supposed to see each other for the first time in a while and as Gatsby was waiting he started thinking that maybe Daisy wouldn't show. 'The Storm' begins on a stormy spring day, with the protagonist Calixta at her sewing machine. She is alone, her husband Bobinot and son Bibi have gone to the store. Calixta seems to be a bored woman, confined to her duties as a housewife and mother. As the distant storm approaches she is unaware of what the storm brings, her former lover Alcee. Calixta allows Alcee into her home and opens her whole world to him. There is a connection between the storm that is going on outside and the storm of emotions going on in Calixta and Alcee. The weather sends Calixta into Alcee?s arms, he wraps his arms around her, and they can no longer hide their feelings for one another. They gave into their raging emotions and made love. Outside the weather was subsiding and Calixta and Alcee?s bodies felt relaxed and calmed. ?The rain was over; and the sun was turning the glistening green world into a palace of gems.? (1614) His face beamed with light like the sun. The storm inside of her was satisfied and for a brief instant Calixta felt liberated from her ordinary dull life.
Childhood The way we are raised by our parents in our early childhood experiences stick with us for years and influences our adult decision making and the way we perceive things in life. In the book, The Rain God, by Arturo Islas, Juanita is married to Miguel Grande, who ends up cheating on her yet she decides to stay with him despite his affair. Through the application of Psychoanalytic Criticism to the character Juanita, it can be argued that her father’s influence during her childhood was the start of her psychological trauma that influenced and shaped her relationship with Miguel Grande. This can be seen through the development of her unconsciousness, her defenses, and her sexuality.

Now, after incorporating in ideas from all in the group I describe the poem as a way of using a storms powerful force to describe physical abuse. Confused? According to the authors of our text, Apollo’s personification of the sun is illustrated by his blazing chariot that journeys through the sky daily (Harris and Platzner 41). Without knowledge of Apollo or any other godlike figure owning the responsibility for the sun’s strange actions throughout a normal day, a normal Greek citizen could possible go mad trying to explain it himself. So, a benefit that the people of Greece were lucky to have is that Greek myth helped ease the minds of Greek citizens of the unknown by explaining the unknown phenomena that they faced daily. Another personification that Greek myth used to explain the crazy, but natural phenomena of our world is the god Zeus and his rule over the skies. Thunderstorms, to the those who don’t have an explanation for them, would seem magical and frightening as they are loud, booming noises coming from the skies for no apparent reason. The explanation that Greek myth had for such a strange phenomenon is that Greek mythology’s most powerful god, Zeus, was responsible for the thunderstorms as he used them to achieve universal obedience from his subjects. Yet another natural event that Zeus’ has reign over is rain, a byproduct of his storms. Tranquility fills the dull atmosphere. Not knowing how much water the clouds contain before the downpour starts, we innocently set ourselves up for an endless journey; a journey to find the purpose in life. A droplet of rain trickles down onto the top of your head, following a shower of many more droplets. Lightning flashes and booms of thunder take over the sky. Many are hesitant of whether to continue their journey or hide from this storm; an umbrella can only give so much protection against the rapid winds and stinging raindrops. Many describe thunderstorms in a frightening way, but the strong willed individuals who embrace the storm think with positivity - rain is changing the environment and bringing life to the world. Once the rain subsides, the atmosphere, exhausted and worn out, settles down back into the calm tranquil environment that it once was. The sky, once filled with dark and murky clouds, is filled with blue. One may either face the challenge they have been approached with to move on, or decline and stay caught in a storm. An individual’s view of the world has immense power of whether one’s obstacles will result in failure or achievement. It is the mentality that we approach life’s challenges that determine the positive or negative outcomes in our lives.
Although the title of the poem gives a positive feeling, the opening line Cloudburst and steady downpour now for days" gives the effect of a monotonous image and depressing persistance. He begins to sense weather by his skin" portrays nature and the sense of a survivor. The animal-like image continues for the rest of the first section and the rest of the second section. movement of that animal continues as the animal goes "uprooting" which gives the sense of nature being destructive. Heaney may have included this deliberately to show that nature is not as angelic as people may think.
Once upon a time high above the earth, fluffy white clouds drifted through the atmosphere. In the clouds lived a family Droplet of water, round and content with life. For as long as I could remember, I spent my days lying on my back, relaxing and soaking up the sun's warm rays. One day, I took my usual place in the sun but the light didn't seem to be as bright. In fact, as the day went on, it grew darker and darker, loud claps of thunder shook the cloud, and the Droplet felt as if he were getting so heavy he could hardly move. This is called precipitation.
...way that the story is being interpreted and how the storm influences the story as a whole. Sometimes people need a wakeup call or a 'storm' to make them aware of how good they have things. In this short story Alcee and Calixta both come to realization of how good they have things with their spouses and how that they already found the ones that they love, which weren't each other. This made me aware of how we as people can take things for granted or believing we know what’s best for us. In reality we don't always know what’s best until something occurs and shows us that what we already have is the best.
