The amount of literature dedicated to the obtaining of wisdom is limitless and continues to grow daily. Sadly the topic for most books centers around worldly wisdom. It should come as no surprise the Word of God also contains wisdom. However its wisdom is quite foolish to the world. Paul in his letter to the Corinthians makes this quite clear as he takes stock of the congregation in Corinth,

20Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength. ... also mature as disciples of Christ. When this is occurring, children not only gain a better understanding of God’s Word, but they too grow in the love of their heavenly Father.

Since so much of our happiness or lack of it is affected by our family life, we should want to take advantage of the wisdom offered in this area by the book of Proverbs. God be praised that he loves us and wants to see us succeed in this life. But even more praise is his, for he removed the guilt of sin from our lives. Without the latter blessing, the former would be in vain. God has given parents an awesome gift to raise the children that God has given them. Parents would do well to learn from the book of Proverbs to gain practical advice. But even more so, all Christians should foster an environment that raises children in the grace and peace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
