Think of a life, and how magnificent it is to bring life into the world, but now think about life with complications, all because women are delaying pregnancies due to their own personal reasons, such as careers and money. According to the Journal of Clinical Nursing by Loke & Poon (2010)- both professionals in the medical field- state “[t]he growing proportion of first births to advanced age women is a public health concern,” and “…there are controversial views as whether advanced age pregnancy renders women more prone to pregnancy complications and adverse outcomes” (p. 1142). This statement provides credibility behind the fact that there are many risks developed during pregnancies in older women. Within the media today there are stories about pregnancies in the younger generation and the controversy in children raising children, but how detrimental is the case in which older women are bearing their first or maybe even their last child up into their pre-menopause stages and sometimes -but very rarely- into menopause stages. According to Bedwell (2006), who is a research midwife, “…[mothers], however healthy at the time of birth, are likely to subsequently face health problems by virtue of their age,” and this raises awareness to the fact that health risks should be examined and considered before conception in the older generation (p. 514). Not only will the health concerns affect advanced age mothers, most importantly, they will affect the unborn child with problems linked to physical and psychological risks, which will both be mentioned throughout the remaining of the essay.

...would they really have gone through with it? It is known that women are working their way up from minority to become well respected but this is costing themselves damage as well as their unborn child, if they postpone pregnancy because they are waiting until she has lived her life first.
It is no secret now that advanced age pregnancy is a detrimental concern, both physically and psychologically. If these concerns would be presented to advanced age women who are choosing to become pregnant, they may reconsider before they take that step. Women and children are diagnosed everyday with concerns and defects due to pregnancies gone wrong and because of a cause, which could have been prevented. This is one way that the mothers, both young and old, can raise awareness in preventing an increase of defects and concerns from occurring in possible advanced age pregnancies.
Abortion, like any other medical procedure, carries some risks. When one considers, however, that “the risk of death associated with childbirth is about 10 times as high as that associated with abortion” (“Know the Facts”), the threat of abortion suddenly does not seem as perilous. Additionally, contrary to popular misconception, abortion does not contribute to future infertility or development of breast cancer. It is therefore safer and more prudent to have an abortion than an unwanted pregnancy.

Prenatal care is an essential aspect of a pregnancy in terms of child development. Depending on whether the mother received adequate prenatal care, there could be problems with the child 's development (Santrock, 2016). Prenatal care might differ depending on the era of pregnancy. For example, a 21st century 's mother might more access to information due to technology as opposed to a 16th or 17th century 's mother. Could this have played a role in the type of prenatal care each mother engaged in during her pregnancy period? Another reason could be a difference in cultural beliefs which might influence a mother 's prenatal behavior.
The opportunity to bring life into the world is a priceless moment, and for that to be threatened by a disease; such as Placenta Previa, is heartbreaking. Placenta previa is commonly described as the imbedding of the placenta over or close to the cervix. According to the Permanente Medical Group, during a normal pregnancy the placenta forms at the top part of the uterus far from the cervix. However in placenta previa, the placenta tends to attach to the lower section of the uterus either covering or partially over the cervix, making it almost impossible for a normal delivery (vaginal birth) to take place (Placenta Previa). Placenta previa complicates about 1 in every 200 deliveries and is one of the top leading causes of vaginal bleedings for the second and third trimester (Getahun). It is also related with the escalation of risks of maternal and infant illness and death (Getahun). Instead of there being a specific or many solutions over the years, doctors have come to agreement with different treatments for placenta previa. The obvious solution to placenta previa is to reduce your risks by avoiding cigarettes and any type of drugs, try to reduce your use of abortions an cesarean section, meaning no elective C-sections (The Bump). However, because the reduction in the things above is unlikely due to the mind-frame and unawareness of today’s women, the medical board has to think of alternative treatments to placenta previa, such as bed rest, constant monitoring through-out the pregnancy, and cesarean section. In this essay, I will evaluate the above listed treatments, which stage the doctor will suggest the treatment and explain which I believe is best.
During her time as a nurse Margaret witnessed women dying simply because they lacked the information needed to prevent pregnancy. When Margaret’s patient Sadie Sachs dies from trying to abort a pregnancy
During the early twentieth century, the rate of unwanted childbirth was very high. Women in poor neighborhoods lived their lives in an almost constant state of pregnancy. Margaret Sanger recognized the need for women to be able to control their childbearing. She believed that unintentional childbearing caused many problems. She felt it led to poverty, abuse, crime, alcoholism, and joblessness. She saw the effect it had on the women’s emotional states and decided to make a difference. She provided women with the means and the knowledge to control their offspring. She gave them hope.
Healthy people 2020 states “The risk of maternal and infant mortality and pregnancy-related complications can be reduced by increasing access to quality preconception (before pregnancy) and interconception (between pregnancies) care. Moreover, healthy birth outcomes and early identification and treatment of health conditions among infants can prevent death or disability and enable children to reach their full potential.” (CITE HEALTHY PEOPLE) Objective maternal, infant, and child health (MICH)1.1 has the goal of “reducing the rate of fetal deaths of fetuses at 20 or greater weeks gestation”. In life, we go through eight periods of development. The Period of development that I personally feel is most important is the prenatal development. Pregnancy is a physical condition in which a woman’s body is nurturing and developing an embryo or fetus. Prenatal development, or gestation, is the process that transforms a zygote into a newborn. Consequently, the process that ends with the birth of a baby involves two sets of experiences: those of the pregnant woman, and those of the developing zygote, embryo, and fetus (Lifespan Development, Boyd, Bee 2015 p.57). During these times are very vital and there every women who is in the process of giving birth to child should learn positive and negative risk factors of conception.

This journal was useful for me because it gave me the background details on why women are opting for delayed motherhood by the age of 30 or 40. Accordingly, I was able to build up my points on how it will affect the health conditions of both baby and mother and also the risk of taking that challenge.

A lot of pregnancies have led to maternal mortality and maternal morbidity. This area of concern is often situated with MFM subspecialists, in order to reduce the rate of maternal mortality and maternal morbidity (Haywood, B., 2012). The Society for Maternal-fetal Medicine also strives to improve maternal and child birth outcomes by standards of prevention, diagnosis and treatment through research, education and training. (Schubert, K. & Cavarocchi, N., 2012) In order for MFM subspecialists to help reduce the rate of maternal deaths, they must receive adequate training and education, including research, which is very essential for treatment. The main focus of the MFM subspecialist is early diagnosis of fetal abnormalities, pathogenesis, and early diagnosis and treatment of pre-eclampsia and fetal growth restriction. In ...
