Time does not wait for anyone who is not quick enough to keep up with it. In order for students to get ahead and succeed, students must learn and study when it is time, not when the students are already out of school. In order for the students to receive the same information, students must all adopt a universal education system. That would mean a standard kindergarten to grade twelve and then post-secondary after-words. A group of people proposed an extra year of school at the cost of the tax players. The government does not agree, and everyone should support them. There are too many variables in the fifth year that could affect the future of students. The government cannot simply afford to fund an extra year, students are given ample time to learn everything in twelve years and since eliminating grade thirteen more students have moved onto post secondary education, why should Canada not receive universal education while the rest of the world does?
The Canadian government is under one of the biggest financial crisis in modern times. Everything is being cut down and reduced. At this time the community cannot afford to misspend the tax payer’s money. People’s wages are being frozen, people are getting fired and stress is at all time high. There is now a need for more new and creative ways to make more money. At this point, funding a fifth year is absolutely out of the question. The province is fifteen billion dollars in debt and by cutting the fifth year we will save about twenty two million dollars (CBC), therefore reducing debt. The idea is that every dollar matters. There is one way to solve the funding problem. If students wish to take an extra year, they can simply pay for it. Why spend the taxpayer’s money on something tha...

... as well. This will work for students who come back for an extra year to reaffirm what they already know or build upon their knowledge. Forcing students headed to university to be one year behind all of their out of province peers is unfair and creates unnecessary separation between them. The money saved by cutting the thirteenth grade can be used for extracurricular activities, helping the school and further improving the quality of a student’s educational journey.

One of the most talked about issues of schooling today, would be year round schooling. The program started as a new way to learn. The old way and still the way most schools calendar is set up was designed the way it is due to harvest times, when the United States was a farming country. There have been many studies done, and some schools have already implemented this program. The studies and the schools that have gone ahead and implemented the program have seen both good things and bad things in their findings. There will be both pros and cons for every issue, and some may see pros and cons differently. Year round schooling is the idea of attending school for an entire year, not all 365 days, but continuously throughout the year. Year round schooling operates on a different schedule to incorporate the same amount of classroom time as a typical school schedule has. The only difference is that the breaks are shorter, but there are more of them in year round schooling. This is the basis of most of the arguments for and against year round schooling.
A student at Ste. Genevieve High School even expressed how she needs the summer break to unwind and not have to care about studying for a class when school would return to session. Another reason students may oppose this change is due to the fact High School students may hold summer jobs to earn some spending money. In certain instances, the year-round calendar may prevent students from holding these jobs or holding them for extended periods of time. One more reason students may disapprove of year-round education is because of extracurricular activities, and how they will be changed or shifted. New teachers can be affected in many ways. Unlike teachers who work in traditional school districts, they do not have the long summer to prepare and acquaint themselves for the forthcoming school year. Along with preparing lessons and assignments, teachers would not be able to take their own vacations and prepare for school
The founders of the American public school system had a dream that all of America’s youth would have the opportunity to attend school in the best way possible for the times. The educational leaders of today must take up the same mission of providing the best school system imaginable for our modern era. Yearlong education is the solution to many problems that plague teachers, students, and school budgets.
While growing up, I attended a traditional school. This is a schooling method many individuals are probably familiar with. A student attends school for nine months out of the year, and then has a three month break during the summer. However, in my immediate hometown surroundings, nearby traditional schools are assessing the idea of transforming into year-round schools. Year round schooling is one subject debated in high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools nationwide. Are schools that operate 365 days a year academically better than traditional schools? What are the cost differences between the two? How would a year-round school effect families? Changing the schooling technique from traditional to year-round has numerous variables that need to be taken into consideration before any grade school or secondary education institution fully commits. Year-round schooling schedules should not be implemented and traditional schooling calendars should be maintained.
Changing the high school program back to five years will help students with their grades and course selection. This extra year for secondary education provides them with extended time to focus on the courses heir high schools provide them with and courses they have taken. Students who may not have performed to the best of their abilities In a course the previous year/semester will have the opportunity to retake a class get additional assistance from teachers to improve their mark averages. For instance, a student who has completed their Calculus and Vect...

America’s black eye. The United States of America is known as one of the top countries in the world, but sadly is ranked only 36th in the world on education. This low ranking should be a wake up call that some changes are long over due to our education system. One of the possible improvements to education could be year round schooling. The percentage of year-round school implementation has increased by 544% in the years 1987 to 2003 (Stasticbrain). Year-round schooling has been an ongoing debate for many years with a strong list of pros and cons. Based on the significant increase in the number of school districts implementing year-round schooling, it appears that the positive aspects may be winning. Year-round schooling is beneficial because
Longer school year-The purpose of this bill is to compete with countries worldwide and to offer more options in the job field. A longer school year would have breaks would be over a shorter period of time but more frequent, allowing for students to stay on track with their education. This would also provide a better schedule to plan vacations for teachers and students.
While switching to a year-round schedule does not always guarantee students the best teachers or learning environment, the educational benefits offered in a year-round school system give students more options in their education. For example, students who fail a class could possibly retake it during one of the many extended breaks throughout the year, which could help them catch up to their peers and make sure they do not fall behind (Schofield 15). Not only would students benefit from making up classes during breaks, but making sure they graduate on time or even early could also decrease taxpayer spending because students would spend less time in school. Others claim the cost of more teachers and air-conditioning (especially during summer) will cancel out or even exceed the savings on buildings and supplies (Schofield 9). Studies have proved the contrary, that savings on insurance, buildings, school supplies and buses heavily outweigh the added costs of hiring more teachers and air-conditioning school buildings 12 months a year (Rodgers
Have you ever began a book only to find that after a few chapters into it a more important task comes up that must be given attention to and you don’t make it back to the book for some time. The ensuing matter has been taken care of and now it is time to finish that novel that thought was so great you just couldn’t put it down but, where did you exactly leave off and what character are doing what now? Often it is required to skim a few previous chapters to get a sense of what is going on to give the full focus to the new events taking place. As the summer ends, the leaves begin to change and our school children return to the classroom to begin this very similar task. Instead of rereading a few pages, teachers must review with every student were they are scholastically and every student is very different. Almost a month into the new school year last year’s material is covered and reviewed. Our traditional school calendar may be to blame for our failing schools systems. Can schools attending year round with smaller gaps of time off from learning benefit the student learners? Better retention of material, higher graduation with college enrollment increases and safer downtime alternatives are a few reasons why the traditional education plan should be done away with.
The education system has been a controversial issue among educators. Requirements of school do not let student choose what they want to study for their future. It’s a big issue to force student study specific curriculums, which don’t help them improve, and what they like to create something. Educators choose a general system for education to all students which based on general knowledge. Intelligent or genius students have to be in that system of education, which doesn’t let them improve their creativity. Educators attempt to change that system to make it better, but their changing was not that great to be an example for the world. Also, did that change qualify education system to compete other systems or not? In some examples and reasons have been made me agree with some of points from Gatto’s and Edmunson’s and disagree them.
To have year round schooling it much more expensive than a regular school year, to have school year round it, can cost “up to $1,300 more per student.” Also, most students in high school have a summertime job for those three months. But, if schooling was year round teens wouldn't be able to work in the summer. So the amount of times teens can work would decrease. In addition, kids would be much busier with school year around because of all the work and less free time to do whatever. For instance, kids with a lot of homework, projects and other things from school wouldn’t allow them to do things they like in their free time. For example, kids wouldn't be able to hang out with friends, family, play travel sports, or go on vacations because of the lack of free time they would get with school year
The academic year should not be longer than what it already is because it would bring on a great deal of stress for the high school student than what they already have. High school is already too much for students right now. When teachers go through their studies, they rush through them to try to complete the textbooks. I don’t think it has to do with completing the texts as much as it should have to do with helping the student learn. The students are so rushed with what they need to learn, that they have no time to actually let it set in their mind of what they learned. Society now has a quicker pace and it is forcing kids to grow older before their time. The main reason why people want the high school year to be extended is to prepare the students for college. Well, college students have more holiday breaks and a much longer summer break than high school students. How is a longer school year preparing the students for college? It doesn’t really prepare them for college. Nothing can actually help prepare a student for college until they actually get into college. Maybe if the studies in high schools weren’t so rushed and actually gave the student...
Public schooling is the most utilized form of education in Canada. It is the most accessible, and is regarded as the most affordable form of education for Canadian students, however there are drawbacks that come with this. Teachers are the primary resource responsible for the delivery of education. In some cases, they may work in partnership with other professionals. However, class sizes are often too large in regard to the student-to-teacher ratio. This does not allow for enough time for students to have access to the educational resources that they require. Due to lack of government resources in some provinces, students who require assistance from a Teacher’s
