The Unites States Navy, founded in 1775 on the 13th of October has been in active service and will be for a long time. The Navy, being one of the five uniformed Military force the United States was created to protect the nation and her people. The Navy, unlike the Marine Corps or the Army, spend most of their time, either on base or in the middle of sea. They, the Navy Personnel, are usually on peacekeeping missions, where they will be able to visit a port while on duty. Joining the Navy has many advantages because they often have to refill their tanks along a friendly port. This gives many of the personnel aboard the promises of seeing the world. They get to see the world and learn about the different cultures. Not only do the personnel get to travel, the government pays for most, if not all of the education that a Navy Personnel would like to receive while they are still in the Navy. Many of the personnel go in as enlisted, which means a person who doesn’t have a bachelor’s degree, though it varies from case to case. Upon retiring from the Navy, one may end up with a doctorate degree that was fully or mostly paid by the government. The Navy also raises the rank of their personnel quiet quickly, meaning that the pay grade they receive over their years of serving, raises quiet rapidly.
Someone who is joining the military may join because they are allowed to travel all around the world for free. Though a personnel may be on tour, once they are at a port, they are able to disembark for an allotted amount of time and walk around the area. The United States Navy Recruiting Command (NRC) consists of 26 Navy Recruiting Districts (NRDs) spread out throughout the Continental United States. One of the largest Recruiting Districts is NRD San Diego, which consists of 55 recruiting stations spread out throughout San Diego, Riverside, Orange County, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Yuma Arizona. The obvious mission is to recruit men and women to join the United States Navy. According to NRC webpage (2015), their mission is to “recruit the best men and women for America's Navy to accomplish today's missions and meet tomorrow's challenges” (pr. 1), Obviously, NRD San Diego shares the same mission, but there are different set of unique challenges, which trickle up from each recruiting station. Although I grew up in a military family, I never saw myself going into a military career. Up until I was about fourteen years old, I planned on being a marine biologist in Hawaii. Sounds nice, right? Well, at the end of my eighth grade year I decided that I might as well join NJROTC, because all of my friends were doing it and it seemed okay. I have to say, looking back, I was quite naive. Joining NJROTC was the smartest and most valuable decision I have made to this day.
The United States Merchant Marines are complied of thousands of the best trained men and women of today to man naval or commercial ships. Merchant Marines have dated back even further then the United States Coast Guard. The Merchant Marines have had a huge impact on the United States Navy since they have been established. Merchant Marines have manned fleets of ships for the U.S. Navy which carry imports and export during peace time. Once wartime rolls around, they become naval auxiliary, to ship and deliver troops and war materials. The largest participation came from the United States Merchant Marines after the Merchant Marine Act of 1936. Due to the act of 1936, the controversial question is when the greatest impact of the Merchant Marines on the United States Navy was during World War 2 and Vietnam War. The merchant marines were called upon to active duty and they responded helping the United States Navy.
As a cadet in the NJROTC program, the Navy's Core Value has changed my understandings of the role as a citizen of the United States. And because of honor, courage, and commitment it has somewhat helped me with what I've been through. Since I have took the time and actually understand what honor, courage, commitment means to me, it has assisted my everyday life and giving myself rules. And it has showed others the Navy core values, and doing so without telling but because of my actions. Getting the privilege to know honor, courage, commitment is like taking a big step in life.
Murphy’s law states that anything that can go wrong will go wrong. As someone who bears the name I can attest the truth in that statement. I have an extremely blessed life and do not endure the suffering that many people do on a daily basis. However, I have bizarre connections to small misfortunes and circumstances that follow me back as far as I can remember. Any acquaintance of mine will attest that things in my life never go as planned and anything that can happen will. Yet through a collection of misfortune, one can still find solace and benefit through their tribulation and see that negative experience could actually be positive.

Abrashoff begins the book by informing the reader of how his story begins; when he is given command of the USS Benfold. The Benfold was the Navy’s most advanced guided missile destroyer the Navy had in 1997 and its command was to be one of the Navy’s top innovators. Unfortunately, Abrashoff points out some flaws with the Navy’s personnel management that I found to be shocking. First, was that “nearly 35 percent of the people who joined the military annually, wouldn’t complete their enlistment contracts.” (p.2) Such turnover can be understood by many business managers in the service industry, but unlike the quick and cheap training process for them, the cost for the military (taxpayers) is astounding. Military is an establishment of a country and nation. There are a few different motivation behind why one may join the Military. Recently, Ive asked a few secondary school understudies for what good reason they anticipate inlisting in the military. Majority of their responses were cash for school , training and traveling. Those are suitable reasons yet many are undecided wheather to join the military after college or before college. With All things considered , it is by all means more valuable and beneficial to join the military before school instead of joining after school. The United States has long been known for having a military presence that few would dare to challenge. The catalyst has not been in having billions in defense funds, it has not been in having huge weapons of mass destruction, it is the heart and spirit of the soldier. I am very proud to be a part of this long and proud tradition of upholding the ideals set forth in the U.S. Constitution. It is something that I would recommend to all willing and able college students. It instills a sense of pride and satisfaction that is matched by no other. As a soldier, there are many options as far as what type of soldier you wish to be. It is similar to choosing a career in the civilian world. The first step in this process is choosing your military branch. There are four main branches in the military; the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines.
Makes them look professional and bullet proof. In seventh grade I told my dad I wanted to be in the Army, but he said no quick and wouldn’t tell me why. So my career choice went from lawer, doctor, veterinarian, to detective, then in ninth grade I wanted to be in the Navy, and my dad didn’t mind that idea. As high school went on, I watch movies over American soldiers and hear stories over soldiers dying. That is what changed my mind and to say who is my dad telling me what I can and can’t do with my life. When I entered the navy, in 1956, I applied to the naval air cadet training program and was rejected due to my lack of education. A college degree or equivalent was required and I had neither. The navy offered a lot of alternative training programs and I decided to forget aviation for the moment and selected radio communications school. After the 6-weeks learning how to become a Navy radioman I was ordered to a ship in support the Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean.
The United States Army is the largest branch armed forces of the United States battling on land. Although it is the largest does not mean that it is the most important. All departments serve a very large role. The United States Navy serves as the most powerful navy in the world. They protect the United States on water. The United States Air Force keep a watch in the sky. They work on protecting us from all forms of terrorism and allies that the government feels are dangerous. All three branches combine for the same purpose. That purpose is to protect the country that we live in. Now military education does not mean nor include you being shipped off and having to fight in battle. Military education is attending a school that teaches you: Discipline, Faster Learning, Teamwork, Functionality Under Stress, Attention to Detail, and Punctuality.
