A month prior to graduating with my Bachelors degree, I was excited to have received an offer letter from company X. Immediately, I contacted the President by phone and accepted the offer. I was moving to Burbank California to start a new chapter of my life. On my first day of work, I met with the human resource manager to go over my benefits and review my job description. I also took a tour of the office and met my colleagues and department manager. The organization was full of young and eager individuals. At that moment, I knew I made the right decision to go with this company.
I started as a customer service representative and quickly moved up the corporate ladder. Working long hours was never an issue and even if I was sick, I would always show up to work. There was so much to learn and as my responsibilities grew, it motivated me to work harder. I was always willing to work harder and longer than anyone else because I loved reaping the rewards. My company valued individuals with strong work ethics. They only promoted the ones that went beyond their line of duty. They frowned upon people that take vacations days or calling in sick. Although the company provided full-time employees with a fair amount of sick days, you would be treated differently when you return to work. Thereafter, people will eventually work harder to recover or go towards what we call a “dark path”. At that point, they will either be fired or will be forced to resign. This was our unspoken “corporate culture”.
During my third year with the company, we made some aggressive goals. Since we were a Southern based company, we needed to explore the Northern part of the state to capture more market share. I was assigned this project with the mentorship of my new boss, the VP of Sales & Operations. I was eager to put my skills to the test. I was in charge of opening up the market and hiring my own staff. We started with our first office in San Jose, and then eventually opened up a satellite office in Sacramento and Oakland. I knew this task was not going to be easy, but it ended up being harder than I thought.
The novel Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich shows the hard working, fast paced environment of the workplace. Even the smallest jobs can take a toll on a person. Along with taking a toll, the novel also references the main point of workers showing compassion on the job. From the story, Barbra talks with one of her co-workers, and tries to help her out. “ ‘Her back has long since given out but she’s leaving now because she’s scheduled for knee surgery in a couple of weeks.
It’s usually this type of employee that is treated unfairly and gets stuck in a job they do not like. I know I was one of those loyal employees. With the economic shift and government influences (Obama care!) Having a job that works for you and takes care of you is vital.
In conclusion, this is why I believe that people are tired of doing the same stressful work consistently without any breaks. Of course you would have to work hard to achieve good things
...cted and die or get very sick. Long hours caused people to be overworked and some committed suicide cause they couldn’t handle the stress of long hours and being away from their families, and this also is included in loss of family stability.
I currently attend Tennessee State University as a freshman. I plan on majoring in Dental Hygiene. I am the first to graduate and attend college in my family so of course everybody has high expectations from me. My mom and dad sacrificed a lot for me to attend school and get a good education and they taught me that without education you really can’t do much with your life. I want to have a good career and a good degree so I can be successful in life. I want to make my parents happy and very proud of the young lady they have raised. My father’s dream has always been for me to major in Dental Hygiene because of how successful I can be. And my dream has always been to make my dad (my inspiration and my role model) happy. When I started off trying to decide my major I had a very hard time because I honestly didn’t know what I wanted to do. I didn’t want to choose a major that I couldn’t really do much with or find a good job with. I asked my dad for help and he told me that this major would fit me perfectly and we looked up more information about it and we looked up the salary for it too and that’s when I knew I had found my major.
I have been working in the Healthcare Industry for upwards of 5 years. Approximately 2 years ago, I started working for HealthSpan - an integrated healthcare facility aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of their employees, families, and communities across Ohio and providing insurance products for group and individuals. As this was my opportunity to finally learn the insurance side of the Healthcare Industry I took a risk. I relinquished my full-time position as a case manager at a community center, a service created to provide community support and advocacy to adults diagnosed with severe mental illnesses for a private contractor
I have known from an early age that I’ve wanted to become a doctor. Helping people has always been a passion of mine. When I was younger, I wanted to be a veterinarian. However, after working with young children I have found that I love working with them, and have a connection with children. Currently, I am interested in becoming either a neonatologist or a general pediatrician so I can continue to work with young children.
Research indicates that long working hours contribute largely to stress and stress related diseases. Currently, employees are being put on pressure by the organization in order to achieve the set goals. Nevertheless, the employees are willing to work for longer hours in order to earn more money to satisfy their increasing needs (Gullotta et al., 2003:23). On the other hand, the organizations have been compelling their subordinates to work for longer hours as a way of punishment or increasing the possibility of achieving the set goals within the stipulated time. This aspect has increased the number of depressed people in the population. With many people being unaware of how to deal with depression, they are turning to smoking. As a result, long working hours have been associated with smoking behaviors (Burke & Cooper 2008:46). The most affected people are the young people. This behavior has increased the number of people suffering from cancer and other respiratory related diseases in the world. In addition, it has increased the number of people suffering from heart and lung diseases.
The three careers in finance that I have an interest in applying are Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Financial Advisor, and Financial Analyst.
Find a job about product management from a local company which can sponsor international students in 6 months. From now on, 3 months before graduation, starting to look for jobs, go to job fair and submit resume on the internet. Transfer to H1B visa in 1 year. And be a product manager in 3-4 years. I choose this year range because most of the recruit and employ requirement for a product manager is 3 to 4 years product management experience.

One of the main problems within the case study of Sick Leave Costing Employers is the Organisational Culture of the business. Organisational Culture is the system of shared beliefs and values that develops within an organisation and guides the behaviour of its members (Schermerhorn, Davidson, Poole, Woods, Simon, & McBarron, 2014, p. 211). Organisational Culture is an evident problem, this is because if a business does not show its employees shared beliefs, and a variety of values then the members are not going to be guided in the right manner that society wants and accepts. Organisational Culture is a method that a business learns over time as it overcomes hurdles within its external environment or its problems of internal integration.
