Howard Hughes
Howard Robard Hughes was a very inventive, attention getting man. He was an out-spoken entrepreneur who was best known for his hard work and dedication in motion pictures and the aviation industry. His inherited fortune gave him the opportunity to start building on his dreams at an early age. Although Howard remained in the news his entire life he was not always looked on favorably in the public’s eye. In later years his paranoia left him a recluse and in twenty years he had not been seen or photographed by the public.
Howard was born on Christmas Eve 1904, in Houston, Texas. He was the only child of Howard Robard Hughes Senior and Alene Gano Hughes. His mother died when he was sixteen and his father died when he was 18. Howard’s childhood wasn’t the greatest but in the end it turned out all right. He was orphaned and inherited $2,000,000 and Hughes Tool Company. His uncle was Hollywood writer Rupert Hughes. Howard took his first airplane ride when he was fourteen years old.
Howard Hughes attended private elementary and high school in California and Massachusetts. He attended the Rice Institute in Houston, Texas. He also attended the California Institute of Technology. Howard had a fine education because he attended highly educational schools.
His father’s great fortune left Howard very wealthy. After his father’s death he was left an estate worth $871,000, and a patent for a drill. The drill was for oil drilling
which made much money. In 19...
Industrialization is the process in which an economy is changed from an agricultural economy to a manufacturing approach and manual labor is replaced by machines in factories. Industrialization brought a more diverse amount of goods and more total goods and improved living for many but, for others it resulted in harsh working and living conditions for the poor and working class. Many positives and negative were present during the industrialization of the U.S. Positives such as more goods being distributed, easier way of doing things, and being able to mass produce. Negatives like children working long and difficult jobs and many workers having poor working conditions.
Oprah Winfrey was born on January 29th, 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi to a unmarried teenage mother. Her mom and dad are Vernita Lee and Vernon Winfrey, her father is a coal miner, turned into a barber, turned into a city councilman who had been in the armed forces when oprah was born. Born in Brazil, Ind., on Feb. 14, 1913, Jimmy grew up fast when his coal miner father died from lung disease in 1920. His mother took in laundry to keep the family together and the children also helped with after school jobs. Hoffa later described his mother lovingly as a frontier type woman "who believed that Duty and Discipline were spelled with capital D's."

Howard Allan Stern was born January 12, 1954 in New York, New York to parents Ray and Ben Stern. For the first 15 years of his life, Stern lived in Roosevelt, Long Island, NY. Sterns love for radio was inherited from his father, who owned part of a recording studio. Stern displayed a love of performing from an early age. Encouraged by his mother, Stern would create puppet shows for his friends, and then perform them in his basement. The shows of course would have Sterns personal touch of being outrageous. Sterns social life growing up was not the best. Roosevelt having a large African American population made it hard for Stern to fit in and he the target of school fights. The Stern family moved to Rockville Centre, in 1969, when Stern was 15.
William Vanderbilt was an American businessman whose wealth was derived from the thriving railroad industry of the late nineteenth century. He was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey in 1821 and died at age 64 on December 8, 1885. During this time, he led the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway, the Canada Southern Railway, and the Michigan Central Railroad. He took over as president for these organizations for his father. His father, Cornelius Vanderbilt, brought the railroad business to his family. Upon his death, William Vanderbilt was the richest man in the world. His success can be attributed to his ability to capitalize on the transportation revolution that swept America years ago, and only remained to expand and grow with the construction of additional rail lines. Savvy with the educated skills of a businessman, he turned the one hundred million that he inherited from his father onto more than one hundred and ninety million dollars in less than nine years. Besides an expert businessman, he also is well known for dabbling in the philanthropic arena with ventures into the for...
...of 1976 he was en route from his house in Mexico to Houston, Texas when he passed away. His body was examined and from reports he looked unrecognizable, for his beard, fingernails, and hair were super long. Also at six foot one he only weighted 90 lbs which I am sure this did not help his health situation at the time of his death. After the medical exam it was said that a kidney stone caused kidney failure to occur. He left behind a great legacy and brought many of the aviation commodities that we still use today. Hughes was known for also being a philosopher so I will leave with one of his Quotes that pretty much summed up his life. “I am by nature a perfectionist, and I seem to have trouble allowing anything to go through in a half-perfect condition. So if I made any mistake it was in working too hard and in doing too much of it with my own hands.” Howard Hughes.
During his lifetime he was known as the wealthier self-made man in the world. Howard Hughes’ riches directly and indirectly helped America’s economy flourish for many decades. For one, Hollywood films accounts for a portion of U.S goods and service revenues. Also, he created many job opportunities for men who could not seek job during the depression and beyond. Two, Hughes was known for spending excessively thought-out his life and more so towards he later adulthood. He purchased an entire Nevada hotel, after refusing to leave when asked. He became Navada’s biggest landlord. Hughes went on a one hundred million dollar buying spree; he bought casinos, local airport, and a television station. All of which helped expand America’s economy. Also,
Throughout the 20th century, it has been the media’s job to pinpoint what events and people would prove to be an effective story. This was certainly the case for Howard R. Hughes. Son to the wealthy Howard Hughes Sr., Howard became the interest of the American people and newspapers for most of his life. Being deemed one of the most famous men of the mid-20th century was greatly attributed to Hughes’s skills as an industrialist, aviator, and motion-picture producer combined with his enormous wealth, intellect, and achievement. The media thrived on Howard’s unusual and sometimes scandalous life, especially in his later years when newspapers would frequently front large amounts of money to get stories on Hughes. Howard was also associated with what has been called one of the greatest publishing hoaxes in history. Howard Hughes Sr., commonly known as Big Howard, was a graduate of the Harvard School of Law, yet never once appeared before a court of law. Big Howard spent the first 36 years of his life chasing money across the Texas plains, as a wildcatter and a speculator in oil leases, working hard enough and earning just enough to move on to another, hopefully more fortunate gamble. In the year of his marriage, Big Howard sold leases on land that proved to have $50,000 in oil beneath it. He promptly took his new wife to Europe for a honeymoon, and returned exactly $50,000 poorer. In 1908, Big Howard turned his ingenuity and his hobby to tinker into good fortune.
Elvis Aaron Presley was born on January 8, 1935, in Tupelo, Mississippi, in a two room house that was built by his dad, Vernon. Elvis loved his parents dearly and had a very close relationship with his mom, Gladys. He also had a profound faith in God. The family had little money, but Elvis’s parents did their best to provide for him. His childhood, the height of his fame, and the unfortunate circumstances surrounding his death made him the icon of the 1950’s that he is today.
People believe that the Southern states used this flag as an act to promote slavery during the Civil war. In actuality it was made for the recognition of the states coming together as a Union as a Confederacy. Even when the Ku Klux Klan taints the historical value of the Confederate flag it is still one of the most important flags in history. The Confederate flag has the right to be flown in Texas, but to prevent people’s rebellion against the Confederate flag it should not be flown in Texas. People first need to become more educated about what the Confederate flag represents as the Sons of Confederate Veterans can help inform the
After working numerous menial jobs, Hughes stumbled upon a profession that truly suited him. He became a merchant seaman and recurrently visited various ports in West Africa. From these travels he learned that he loved seeing new and foreign places. Instead of returning to the United States, Hughes spent time living in far off places such as Pans, Genoa, and Rome. In each location he gathered information and experience that he began writing about. Upon returning to the U.S., Hughes released his first publication and gained instant attention and fame. Now comfortable with what he wanted for his life, Hughes returned to college and grad...
