When analyzing the form of King Henry’s violent monologue, one of its most striking features
Henry V tells the soldiers that on that day, those who shed blood with him, are his brothers in spirit. This one line excited and hyped up the soldiers to run into battle. One line inside an approximate forty-seven line speech, increased the purpose incredibly and sent out the optimal message.
In Henry V, the actions of King Henry portray him as an appalling leader. Among Henry's many negative traits, he allows himself to be influenced by people who have anterior motives. This is problematic because the decisions might not be the best decisions for the country, or neighboring countries. The bishops convinced Henry to take over France because they would be able to save land for the Church. Henry doesn't have the ability to accept responsibility for his actions, placing the blame on others. Before Henry begins to take over a French village, he tells the governor to surrender or risk having English troops terrorize civilians. This way, if the governor declines, it would be the governor's fault for the atrocities that would occur. Henry has gotten his troops to go along with the take over by manipulating them. He tells the soldiers that what they're doing is noble, and that they should be proud. In fact, they're attacking another country in order to conquer it. Henry's character comes off as coldhearted and careless. Henry shows ruthlessness towards civilians, threatening them with atrocities. He's careless with his soldiers, thoughtlessly allowing their executions, or playing hurtful games with them.
...der to maintain success. King Henry showed that he is restricted to one language which resulted him to not gain the lower class power and it then lead him to focus on his political status. On the other hand, Hal presented himself to the viewers as a friendly character, yet he sustained to manipulate and lie to others to achieve his goals. Henry IV n, Part 1 presents the idea of political power and the different characteristics leaders follow. The lesson for audiences, then, is to develop relationships with different people who will expand one’s area of inspiration and the ability to advance success. One can learn from the mistakes of King Henry and remember to be visible and properly positioned, so society can see one’s strengths and talents.
The play Henry V has some compelling and persuasive moments such as the “St. Chrispin Day” speech. The speech occurs before the battle of Agincourt when Henry V is trying to manipulate the nobles to fight. He persuades the English noblemen with promises of glory and riches worth more than gold. He showers them with fantasies of being great warriors who would mount to be more than the nobles who took the gold like cowards. King Henry uses anaphora, phrasing and tricot to further engage the nobles, and questions the men’s integrity and loyalty to the cause of the battle. He convinces the men that they are capable of winning wether or not they are physically and mentally capable of said task.
Through high moral character Henry established credibility with the audience through creating a setting that aroused feelings in the people at the convention in order to convince them they had to fight for more than just peace. The goal Henry had when he spoke about war was to be honest with the crowd and point out that they needed to do something now or they would loose not just what he loved, but what they also loved. Henry said “If we wish to be free, if we mean to preserve inviolate those inestimable privileges for which we have been so long contending...and which we have pledged ourselves never to abandon until the glorious object of our contest shall be obtained, we must fight!”. In this quote the tactic of ethics is apparent in that Henry wanted to achieve a personal level of connection with the audience and establish his credibility. By relating losing the war it also meant the lose of their feelings of comfort and contentm...
While lacking logos and ethos, Joan uses pathos in the speech by showing passion and drive to follow the voices in her head. She wants to obey the angels that talk to her because she is their voice of reason. Joan uses bold and powerful language to get her point across such as “Paris will open its gates; or if not, we will break through them” Shakespeare n.pg.). As well as “You should always attack; and if you only hold on long enough the enemy will stop first. You don't know how to begin a battle; and you don't know how to use your cannons. And I do” (Shakespeare n.pg.). Both of these quotation show the willingness Joan has for the war and how confident she is in herself to fight. Similarly, in Henry V Act III scene i, Henry gives a speech to his fellow men in hopes to motivate them and pump them up for the next round of battle. He hopes to re energize his men, and give them confidence as they take the battle field again to finish the fight. Unlike Joan, during this speech, Henry uses both pathos and ethos. He uses pathos showing his passion and confidence about the upcoming fight and uses ethos because he is the King talking to his men.
Shakespeare’s Henry’s most remarkable and heroic quality is his resolve; once Henry has his mind set on accomplishing something he uses every tool at his disposal to see that it is achieved. ‘If we may pass, we will; if we be hinder’d we shall your tawny ground with your red blood discolour’ Henry meticulously presents himself as an unstoppable force to which his enemies must choose to react; although his methods are morally questionable they a...
Henry lacks experience and will not understand war until he steps into battle but until then he will be childish and curious. For example, when the narrator describes how Henry is thinking about the war he says, “For days he made ceaseless calculations, but they were all wondrously unsatisfactory. He found that he could establish nothing. He finally concluded that the only way to prove

To turn Henry V into a play glorifying war or a play condemning war would be to presume Shakespeare's intentions too much. He does both of these and more in his recount of the historical battle of Agincourt. Although Shakespeare devotes the play to the events leading to war, he simultaneously gives us insight into the political and private life of a king. It is this unity of two distinct areas that has turned the play into a critical no man's land, "acrimoniously contested and periodically disfigured by opposing barrages of intellectual artillery" (Taylor 1). One may believe that Henry is the epitome of kingly glory, a disgrace of royalty, or think that Shakespeare himself disliked Henry and attempted to express his moral distaste subtly to his audience. No matter in which camp one rests, Henry V holds relevance for the modern stage. Despite containing contradictions, Henry is also a symbol as he is one person. This unity of person brings about the victory in the battle of Agincourt.
