Is Studying Abroad Beneficial?

There are many arguments for and against studying abroad. Studying abroad is a program in which students attend a school outside the United States and receive academic credit towards their major (New Mexico State University). Some even call it “partying abroad” because it’s a “waste of money and time”. But studying in another country for a year or even a semester can be very beneficial. You can gain perspective of global issues, advance your language skills, learn research methods and ethics, form valuable connections and grow as a person (Benefits of Studying Abroad). But if you’re not careful, you can end up having a hard time being in another country without your parents and with immense freedom, especially if you haven’t had much before.

The opportunity to gain perspective of global issues is amazing. By gaining perspective, I mean, you can actually see what it’s like in other counties, not just read about it on the internet or watch a documentary on TV. If you travel to a third world country, you’ll be able to experience poverty and inequality. You can see firsthand the great wonders of the world and how other people live, all while attending school. You won’t have to worry about having to make up all the work you miss while you’re gone because you’re doing the work while on vacation.

... things difficult although you are very likely to pick up the language and last of all, your credits may not even transfer which is why you need to study up on every aspect of your trip. There are good points and bad points to everything and those are only some of the good and bad things about studying abroad.
