Good morning Mr. Rodin! August: Good morning! Interviewer: I’m so excited to be able to conduct this interview with you and find out “what makes Rodin.” Okay let’s get started with one of your pride and joy sculptures and also my personal favorite “The Kiss.” This work shows the passion that can be shared between a male and female, and because this work is so life like its almost as though you can feel this passion being shared as well. The detail and texture that you put into creating the body of the female and male is magnificent. What I want to know is where or what did you get your inspiration from for this masterpiece? August: This embracing couple portrays the the 13th century Italian Noblewoman Francesca da Rimini from Dante’s Inferno, who falls in love with her husbands little brother Paolo. The couples secret is discovered and the enraged husband kills both his brother Paolo and wife Francesca. As you can see in this sculpture the lover’s lips never actually meet. I included this fact to represent that they were interrupted and met their fate without ever actually kissing. Interviewer: Wow thats a beautiful yet tragic story to get your inspiration from, but that makes this piece so much more intriguing knowing this background information! The next question I have for you is that I’m sure most artist have a work that wasn't their particular favorite. There can be various reasons as to why this work wasn't their favorite. For example, maybe there was a time limit imposed on a work and the artist wished they could of spent more time on details. ... The art that you create shows the beauty and detail of the human body, but what are you really trying to convey with all the artwork you have created? August: My style was developed completely on my own without any training. Without strict training I developed a much freer and more emotional style that people love! My message would be to follow what you are passionate about no matter what or you won't be happy with your life. I learned that the hard way. At first glance, the pottery appears to be somewhat simple but it does have a unique appeal. The calm, innocent, and humble appearance while in a painful moment is unprecedented, and it was enough to let the viewer admire and fall in love with this sculpture and its meaning. The distinctive character of glazed terracotta is the smooth, bright, often polychrome cover that has largely contributed to the success of such artifacts, and which recalls, in its plastic compositions, the works by Verrocchio and Filippo Lippi. However, Giovanni‘s art in this sculpture is elegant, remarkable, and a mix of the sophisticated religious themes with antique mannerisms and with the monumental emphasis.
Bayard Rustin was a highly important member of the civil rights movement. Though Rustin’s role was played more behind the senses it was more effective in that way. From his dealings with large scale organization and curtail advisement and counseling, his views on philosophy religion and life were able to influence his impact on the civil rights movement.
The quote above, perfectly describes the kind of person Rodin was, and the type of art he produced. Rodin is known as a very proactive, persevering, and innovative man from history. One of Rodin’s most amazing sculptures, The Thinker, is renowned as one of the most innovative and inspiring art pieces ever created. This magnificent and fascinating sculpture was so influential because of its themes of mental creativity, intellect, and spirituality. Even though this piece is so well known and inspiring, many people still struggle to identify what exactly this piece says about human nature. In order for one to discover what this sculpture says about human nature, one must take into account the time period the art piece was created in, the author’s influence, and the analysis of the piece. All of the evidence found among these categories related to the sculpture suggest that The Thinker, created by the famous Auguste Rodin, depicts the creativity and spirituality of human nature.
In my examination of the works, I came across a particular sculpture that portrayed both beauty and craftsmanship. A 15th century sculpture (1490), made in Venice, Italy by Tullio Lombardo, shows a life-size figure of Adam. Titled Adam, the work is the most prominent in the gallery mostly because of its 6-foot standing. It immediately caught my attention and gave me a very realistic impression. One beige color and made of marble, Adam is depicted simply, yet the statue has intense emotions. His meaningful glance is seen in the upward and tilted head position. Adam has almost lifeless looking eyes and seems to be staring into the distance. With these sagging eyes, parted lips, and lacking posture I feel Adam’s guilt is displayed in this figure.
In the first image on the left, a man is kissing a lady; the artistic way of expression can be interrupted as disrespectful or offensive. Her work has had a lot of criticism as there is too much sexuality featured. For example, the boy and the girl on the cliff having oral sex. Nevertheless, she doesn’t shy away from controversial topics of racism, gender,and sexuality in her paper -cut silhouette.

She is widely acknowledge, and so far through out her life, has made quite an impact. Her love of nature and in it’s importance is rippled through out all her work, mostly in the freedom of her later works. Her ability to maintain balance between her love for architecture and art, has helped to make her stand out in both crowds. Her sculptures will please viewers for centuries to come.

The article tends to drag on with William Egglestons life. The reason I chose to read this article about art is, because art is so elegant to examine. To see the art of a really well known artist makes the article more intriguing. It’s interesting to see how a writer tries to explain how someone else’s art can attract them. I`m an artist myself I would rather see my art and do less talking. It’s all about the picture that’s on the wall that does the talking. It’s you as a person understanding how to determine what to feel when looking at the art on the wall. I believe artist face a very entertaining and difficult time when it comes to art in general. Passion is a great lesson any artist can take away and learn from. It makes a piece of artwork come together and makes the outcome strong. Art is very powerful and in my opinion it guides our society and makes change happen.
Art is something strange and even meaningless in my family tradition. I am from a family of the medical discourse community. Most of my family members have medical degrees. Therefore, they hoped that I could follow the family tradition. However, I chose to follow my dream. According to the book, East Eats West, by Andrew Lam, he mentioned ““America will tell you to look out for number one, to think for yourself […] follow your dream … take care of yourself first … you cannot make anyone else happy if you don’t love yourself” (45). I have to make myself happy before helping and satisfying other people. Therefore, I chose to continue my education in the Digital Media Art (DMA) field because I love technology and art. I believe that I will do well in this profession. Art is created for many reasons, and art can be beautiful, frightening, or provocation (Barrio). In order to explain the discourse community of Digital Media Art, I will use the interview that I had with Ms. A, a professional artist in Graphic Design, and some other research articles. I will include the background and experience, career path, and writing and communication skills of an artist. Auguste Rodin (1840-1917) was born on November 12th 1840 in Paris, France. Very few would dispute the statement that Rodin was the greatest genius in the world of sculpture in the late 19th century. There were very few artists who faced the criticism; slander and personal insults during their lifetimes as was given to Rodin likewise there are few artists who have known such personal glory during their carriers. Rodin's sculpture was so powerful and original that those in control of the art world did not understand him in his day. He was refused admittance into the Ecole des Beaux-Arts three times and was the brunt of many articles criticizing his works. His talent and art was so powerful that despite all of the official disdain he received he was able to overcome these obstacles placed in his path and emerged on the international scene attracting collectors from around the world to his studio seeking his works. Rodin's youth was spent drawing and sculpting at an early age. He spent much of his time at the Louver where he met Antoine Louis Barye. After his three refusals of admission to the Ecole des Beaux-Arts the eighteen-year-old Rodin worked as a craftsman and jewelry maker as well as at other odd jobs. His beloved sister died in 1862, which shook Rodin greatly, and he entered the Fathers of the Saint-Sacrament. “Art must be an expression of love or it is nothing.” Art is just that, one of many ways that people can express love. LOVE by Robert Indiana and The Kiss, by the French sculptor, Auguste Rodin are just two sculptures that demonstrate love. LOVE is a structure of the word love in red with the first two letters above with the “O” slanted, and the last two letters bellow the first two, that is displayed publicly in New York City. The Kiss can now be found in the Musée Rodin in Paris, France. The sculpture is of two characters of the opposite sex kissing. The materials and colors used in the two sculptures, as well as the aspect of love that they represent and the history behind the sculptures, The Kiss seems to be more romantic.
The night Michelangelo Buonarroti was born, “Mercury and Venus were in the house of Jove,” says Vasari. This means that, according to a lucky star, Michelangelo could be expected to produce extraordinary works of both art and intellect. How true this turned out to be! Whether it was fate or coincidence, few haven’t heard of this world renowned and avant-garde talent. From painting to architecture and sculpture, it seems like there is nothing Michelangelo couldn’t master. Michelangelo is said to have considered himself a sculptor, but why was it then that he produced his sculpture with such a unique and striking depiction of the human body? Why did Michelangelo create such masculine forms, and was it self expression that provoked this intense artistry? There are many factors that can influence an artists creative process, but with Michelangelo the most prominent were most likely his religion, society, travels, and self perception.
This marked the beginning of his inspiration to form a personal, expressive, and religious stance on his art values and style. He has found his process and content that will be apparent in his future work.
In an article that takes a look at the modernism of Rodin’s work, it is stated that, “Some saw the Age of Bronze as merely one more academic nude, and his subsequent exploration of the expressivity of the human form has been dismissed as little more than pandering to melodrama and sentiment… literature on the sculptor caricatured nineteenth-century sculpture as a wasteland in which Rodin was the solitary oasis, and he was often held up as the only sculptor of any interest comparable to the rapid advances of modern painting” (Getsy 132). Rodin’s work was not interesting simply because he was the only “interesting” sculptor; Rodin’s work was interesting because he had modernized and turned to a new direction. When Rodin created The Age of Bronze in 1876, many critized him for “cheating” by casting his sculpture from a live model; however, after more research and Rodin himself providing evidence of his model, it was clear that this sculpture was in fact not cast from a live model. In order to achieve this level of modernism Rodin had to cast aside all the traditional styles and ideas that had been used in sculpting. This is shown in the article when the author states that Rodin, “Employed and adapted a sophisticated and subtle formal language of the sculptural body.
The arts have influenced my life in amazing ways. Throughout my life, art has been the place I run to and my escape from the world. As I’ve grown older, art has become so much more than that. Every piece of art I create is a journey into my soul. It’s a priceless way to deal with my emotions and my struggles. I create art not only because I enjoy it and because I want to, but because I have to. Somewhere deep inside there is a driving force, urging me to put my heart down on paper. I become emotionally attached to each of my pieces because they are like dashes on the wall marking my growth. Each one is the solution to a problem I have dealt with and overcome.
